MICROPHONE WAS WORKING AND NOW STOPPED

Hi team,

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been using my ASTRO A50 headset for many years on my home desktop pc but I am currently in hospital and trying to play some games while I'm in here on a LENOVO THINKPAD GAMING LAPTOP.

I was playing call of duty the first two nights and my microphone was working no problem and then out of no where it just stopped.

I have tried everything including installing Astro command centre, device manager, control panel settings, system settings... nothing seems to be working. I've sat here for hours messing with settings and absolutely nothing is helping.

There was also a problem where i was getting double audio from my headset and inbuilt laptop camera microphone so I figured how to disable that and it fixed the double audio and was working fine still..

i have also tried uninstalling the Astro drivers and Astro command centre, tried to plug the headset back in but still the same.

I think something has gone wrong with the default communication device in my opinion after hours of troubleshooting, testing and a lot of head scratching.

Sound Playback:

Headphones - Astro A50 Game - Default Device

Headset Earphone - Default Device

Recording:

Line - Astro A50 Game - Ready

Headset Microphone - Astro A50 Voice - Default Device (I think this is the problem - I can't change it to Default Communication Device everything is greyed out and no option to select as COMMUNICATION device.

System Settings - SOUND:

- OUTPUT: Headphones - Astro A50 Game - set as default for audio (VOLUME SLIDER IS MOVING TO DESKTOP AUDIO)

FORMAT - 2 channels, 16bit, 48000 Hz (DVD quality)

- INPUT: Headset Microphone - Astro A50 Voice (does not say anything about default communication device nor can I select a format

(I really feel like this is the problem... I am just absolutely stumped why its doing this.

The headset works fine still, I can hear audio and can hear people but when I bring the boom arm for the mic down I can hear in my ears when I tap the microphone but for some reason the laptop wont pick up the audio from me hitting the microphone and won't send it anywhere to my machine or game.

I am running WINDOWS 11 unfortunately as I am borrowing my brothers LENOVO but still.. it was working and now its not... really not the biggest fan of Win11 I hate it! (insert vomit emoji here).

This has been driving me insane because I'm quite savvy when it comes to tech and computers and can usually figure this stuff out pretty well by myself but this one has me stumped. I really need help. I've looked at many google, forums, reddit, all sorts of things on Microsoft support but nothing has worked.

I know it will be something so stupid and I cant wait to hear back from you and hopefully get some help ASAP

p.s - I tried to upload screenshots but it doesn't seem to work.

many thanks in advance and look forward to hearing back from someone real soon, hopefully with a fix!

Hello, I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

Keep in mind you can install Windows 10 on any Windows 11 PC, the licenses are interchangeable. So if it comes to having to do a Clean Install that is an option here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Try these fixes for Windows 11 Headset not working:

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back, I will have other suggestions if necessary.

We don't do remote connection from forums. This is interactive help. I give you things to try then you reply back with results of each so I know what else to suggest.

Please do not skip any steps. We often find out later that the fix was the skipped step. If you need help performing any step I will help.

Since you know when this started, See if you can System Restore to a point before the problem started:

    https://itechhacks.com/system-restore-windows-11/

System Restore is your first line of defense and can take you back to a point before a problem began like a time machine. If it doesn't help then you can undo it. Read about it first in the tutorial above and then try restoring to just before this started. If System Restore is not enabled on C drive do that now so it's available in the future.

If the problem repeats or System Restore doesn't work then check which Windows Updates were installed at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > Update History, uninstall them there or System Restore again, then immediately check for and block the Updates with the Hide Updates tool explained here: https://www.droidwin.com/how-to-stop-only-a-spe...

If that doesn't work then try these other fixes for Microphone:

    https://nerdschalk.com/how-to-fix-microphone-no...

One of those should work. Take your time to work through them all until one works.
