One possibility is that your copy of Office is out of date. Office running on High Sierra no longer receives updates. You have to be running at least Catalina to get 16.56, the current version.
Teams on Mac (High Sierra) says "You're not on Teams yet…" BUT I AM! :(

Installed new MS Office for Mac 2019 on High Sierra 10.13.6.
I recently updated my security back to be my phone number so I keep getting the 30 day security notice, which is soooo annoying.
I can now sign into Team on Chrome (not Safari), so why can't I use the desktop app?
I already tried removing suggested Application Support files. Also uninstalled it and reinstalled Teams. No good. Still says "You're not on Teams yet…"
WHY???????

2022-01-13T18:23:39.3+00:00 You'll be able to sign in. You'll be able to update to 16.54, which is better then what you have now. You won't receive further security updates.
Personally, I find it despicable that Microsoft only supports the last three operating systems, especially when Apple has the nutty policy of bring out a new version every year. A lot of perfectly good hardware becomes useless for running Office.

2022-01-13T19:10:19.14+00:00 It's worth a try. There are actually 2 methods on that page. The second worked for the person.
The first would also be worth a try if the second method doesn't work for you, if you know how to find the folders mentioned. Those folder are in your User Library folder, which is normally hidden. If you hold down the Option key, while clicking on the Go menu, Library will be added to the menu. Click on Library, then you'll be able to find the folders:
~/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.teams
~/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.teams.shipit
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams

Then removing ALL Teams related stuff and re-installing. Didn't work.Tried a test account to get the message: Teams has already been set up for another address!
Gone back to normal account. Still same "You're not on Teams yet…"
Which of these should help?
