After updating my PC, some apps are slow to start opening.

I have recently upgraded my PC hardware, namely a new motherboard and a new CPU. PC works fine, apart from loading some apps such as Discord and Google Chrome. Once they've loaded, they work absolutely fine, but it can take 10 seconds or more for an app to begin to open. Didn't have this problem before upgrading.

I have updated the BIOS on the motherboard. updated Windows and all the drivers that were suggested by DriverEasy. I have run SFC command in the command prompts, I've used the Windows Media Creator tool to upgrade the PC again to see if there were any corrupt files, and the issue still persists.

I'm using Windows 10, Motherboard is a ROG STRIX Z690-A Gaming WIFI D4, CPU is an Intel i7-12700KF.

Any advice on how to fix this please?

    Hi John D,

The issue isn't just Chrome; I have the same problem with Discord. Firefox opens up pretty much immediately when I open it, and I haven't found any other apps that are experiencing this problem so far.

Apologies if I've been misleading you, I've been trying these fixes out with both but using Chrome as the constant here to speak of. Should I still try disabling browser extensions and hardware acceleration in Google Chrome?

    Kind regards,

    Blinty

    Hi Blinty,

Thanks for getting back to me and providing update.

If that doesn't work, you could also try adjusting the performance settings in Windows to prioritize apps and programs over background processes. To do this, go to Settings > System > About > Advanced system settings > Performance settings, and select "Adjust for best performance of programs".

I hope these suggestions are helpful in resolving the issue. If the problem persists, please don't hesitate to reach out to me for further assistance.

    Best regards,

    John D.

Hi Blinty, I'm John D, and I am an independent advisor.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been experiencing some issues with your upgraded PC.

Based on the information you've provided, it seems like you've already taken several steps to troubleshoot the issue. Updating the BIOS, Windows, and drivers, running the SFC command, and using the Windows Media Creator tool are all good steps to take.

One additional thing you could try is disabling any unnecessary startup programs or services that may be running in the background and slowing down the app loading times. You can do this by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager, clicking on the "Startup" tab, and disabling any programs or services that aren't essential.

If this doesn't work, come back to me and we will explore other option.

    Regards,

    John D.

    Hi John D,

I have selected "adjust for best performance of programs" and the speed of Chrome beginning to open stayed the same; no better and no worse. The text on this webpage looked rougher, so have swapped the setting back to letting Windows decide for me. Thank you for your suggestions so far though and your continued help, if there is anything else you could suggest then I'd try those too, thank you.

    Kind regards,

    Blinty

    Hi John D,

I have removed a few programs/services that aren't essential to the startup, and while the start up is a little quicker, I'm still experiencing the same issue. However, the issue seems intermittent (if that's the right word?). I can start up the PC and Chrome will open quickly. Restart the PC, and the issue is back. I'm unsure if this information is helpful, but felt as if I should mention it.

Thank you for your quick response! Any other options I should explore?

    Kind regards,

    Blinty
