Windows desktop and taskbar freezing and alt tab/windows tab stops working.

Recently I have been having these freezes when occasionally alt tabbing, where alt tab would no longer open and the task bar would stop soon followed by the desktop, all the tabs and even video games; applications too work fine. Is there anyway to fix this when it occurs? Task manager cannot open and I also have double checked to ensure the keys are functioning, which they are.

    Hi Danny

I'm Christine, a Windows user like you. I'll do my best to help you.

Looks like your taskbar is freezing and some tabs are not working. Let me help you with that.

May I know when did the issue start? Is there any changes made?

When was the last time that you have shutdown your device?

Please try to follow the steps below:

    1. First, please shutdown your device and wait for at least 3 minutes before turning it on.

Check if the issue persists after turning it on.

    1. Please update your Windows

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/upd...

    1. Please refresh the explorer.exe

You may follow the steps below:

    On Windows 11:

Right click on start menu and choose Task Manager

Or press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC

Click Details Tab and end the task of explorer.exe

Then click Run New Task and type explorer.exe and hit enter

    On Windows 10

Right click on start menu and choose Task Manager

Or press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC

Click Details Tab and end the task of explorer.exe

Hit File then click Run new Task and type explorer.exe and press enter

Restart your device and check if the issue still persists.

Please let me know the result. I'll be happy to assist you all the way until it's resolved.

    Thank you,

    Christine L

    Hi Danny,

    Thanks for the update. Appreciated.

Please try to follow the steps below:

    1. Update or Reinstall the Display driver

Please press the Windows key + X

    Then click Device manager

    Kindly expand the Display Adapters

Right click and choose "Update Driver automatically"

If the issue persists Choose "Browse my computer for driver"

and click the old version of driver

If it will still the same, please uninstall it and restart your device.

Check if the issue still persists after restart.

    1. Do you have other user account on your device?

If yes, please check if you are also getting the same issue from there.

    Will wait for your response,

    Thank you,

    Christine

Yes, currently doing that is not possible due to anyway of accessing task manager without it previously being open. Since it does not pop up either way of doing so. This started around when the new update came out, just a bit before it, I had also changed locations of the task bar along with the theme and color of it.
