How can I open my camera?

The black screen can mean several things. First, let's check to see if you have a camera switch. Many cameras have a switch to close and open the camera. This switch is located at the top of the screen near the camera, on the keyboard, or on the side of the computer. Can you check to see if you have this switch?

Open Settings from the Start menu or by pressing Windows + I.

Click on Apps > Apps & features and look for Camera from the list.

Click on it, then click on the Advanced options link.

Scroll down and click the Reset button to reset the app.

The next thing would be to run the camera troubleshooter.

1. Please type Troubleshoot in the search on the taskbar and open the page.
2. Then click on other troubleshooters.
3. Scroll down the page and click on the run key for the camera.

I have enclosed the directions below on how to check to see if the camera drivers are in the device manager.

1. Type the word device manager in search on the taskbar then open the page.
2. Click on the camera folder in the list of drivers.
3. Right-click on the folder. Check to see if you have a camera driver.
4. If you see the driver, right-click on it and uninstall it.
5. Then restart your computer. Windows will reinstall the driver and hopefully fix the problem.

If this does not work or if you do not see a camera driver, it can be downloaded from the maker of the computer such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.

The maker o the computer is responsible for updating the drivers so their device works with Windows. Most companies have a scanner that will tell her where to find the driers. You will want to download the most current drivers. If you have a problem, their support can help you.

You may need to give your computer permission to use the camera.

1. To grant access to the camera, type settings in the search on the taskbar.
2. Then click on Privacy and Security.
3. Scroll down the large pane until you see the camera. Click on it.
4. Turn the camera access on.
5. Click the programs that will have access to the camera.
6. At the bottom of the list, click on let desktop apps have access to your camera.
