Slow input from keyboard with lag. Wired and bluetooth keyboards have the same result, whats wrong?

Hi,

I work with a desktop I build myself and updated from Windows 10 to 11 Home.

At first nothing was wrong, but recently (2 weeks) I have noticed that typing any words on native applications seems to be with some kind of lag.

This happens when I use Notepad, Office Word, Whatsapp, Firefox, Visual Studio Code or any type of application.

  • My drivers are up to date (checked Device Manager, used the DISM commands (no issues found), uninstalled drivers and installed again).
  • Battery of my bluetooth Keyboard (Logitech Mini MX) is fully charged.
  • Wired keyboard also shows the same behavior.
  • I even performed a clean install (fully clean) and after installing my applications the same behavior came back.
  • Troubleshoot does not show any issues.
  • Keyboards work fine on my laptops (Macbook and HP)
  • I have the latest updates from Windows 11

I have a very high end desktop and this issues is driving me mad. I work as a coder and typing is a big part of my work.

System information

  • Windows 11 Home edition
  • GPU NVIDIA 3090
  • CPU MSI PRO Z690 WIFI DDR4
  • 32GB RAM
  • SSD Samsung 980 Pro 2TB
  • Mouse Logitech MX Master 3
  • Keyboard Logitech MX Keys Mini
  • Wired keyboard HyperX Red Switch Mechanical

Please help me with this issue. I have been struggling with this issue for a couple of weeks already.

    Hello Lawrence22,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.

I understand that you are experiencing problems with keyboard input lag on Windows 11.

Thank you very much for your efforts to resolve this issue.

I even performed a clean install (fully clean) and after installing my applications the same behavior came back.”

From your description of this sentence, the problem appears after the installation of the application, then it may be that some application process running on your computer is interfering with the keyboard input.

On the one hand, please perform a clean boot in Windows, so that you can determine whether a Third-party software program is interfering with your program.

You can click How to perform a clean boot in Windowsfor more details about clean boot.

Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get you back on track.

If the problem does not exist after a clean start, please refer to the methods in the above link to troubleshoot which program is causing the problem.

On the other hand, try disabling hardware acceleration: some applications (especially web browsers) use hardware acceleration to improve performance. However, this may cause input lag for some users. Try disabling hardware acceleration in your application to see if it helps.

The following is an example of disabling hardware acceleration in the Edge browser.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION? Two days ago, with the *!@# keyboard lag problem seemingly getting worse and definitely driving me nuts, I removed the keyboard from "devices"...i.e. apparently I was uninstalling it. Note, my computer is a laptop (Surface Two) - the physical keyboard is not removable. Restarted the computer. ("Keyboard" had been replaced in the restart) NO MORE KEYBOARD LAG! Maybe the keyboard driver or other keyboard-specific software had gotten corrupted? I don't know but after a couple days of blessedly not having the lag, I'm beginning to think the problem is gone. Posting this in case it's of any help to others suffering from Keyboard Lag.

Oh c'mon, MICROSOFT needs to FIX this keyboard lag problem with Windows 11! The problem is driving many of us nuts and not all of us are techs, ready (or advised) to go through all the steps you've listed. This is not an acceptable "fix" for the problem. Microsoft: step and make Windows 11 a product that fully works!

    Hello Lawrence22,

    I'm sorry I couldn't help you.

I don't get a lot of user feedback on this issue, so it's not a common problem.

As you said, the problem only appeared after you reinstalled the system and after some time, this could be caused by a conflict with some software.

Do you have some three-party software installed on your system? If so, please try to uninstall them one by one to see which software is causing the problem, and then try to give feedback afterwards.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

Thank you for your extensive reply.

I tried all suggestions and I still see the same lag input. Its small but still visible. Is this something that is common on Windows?
I performed a clean install again and revert back to Windows 10 to see if it was a Windows 11 issue. But after some time I noticed that it was back.

I'm still dealing with this issue.
