I have trouble updating PC from windows 7 to 11

I'm trying to update a PC from windows 7 to windows 11. When I go to start, control panel, system security, windows update I get the error code 8024402C. Not sure if it's even OK to leap straight from 7 to 11 since I'm new to this. It used to be a work PC and I'm not sure if they used a digital licence or a product key to get windows at the time but I am quite certain I will need to get a new licence for it. I'm just not sure if I should be going for digital licence or product key now that its a home PC. I'm quite sure the PC meets the hardware requirements should I back the PC up on an external hard drive and factory reset the machine or would that be unnecessary? Thanks.

    1. Windows 10 cannot be obtained via Windows Update.
    2. You may be able to fix the error by installing KB3138612, KB4474419 (and KB4490628).
    3. The official way of upgrading or even creating installation media is the Media Creation Tool.

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=691209

The Media Creation Tool requires Transport Layer Security 1.2 enabled.

It's not the speed, it's the security. Windows 11 requires TPM 2.0 and as far as I can determine, the Xeon X5650 does not.

Thanks for the reply, still a bit unsure, if the computer needs to less that 18 months older than the windows 11 release date then no way could it be compatible, yet the screen shot below outlines what spec it is and it seems all good with two processors operating over a 64 bit system at 2.6 GHz. It says only 32 GB storage available to use so maybe that is an issue. Perhaps a simply getting windows 10 instead would be the right choice. But then why does it not automatically update to that at windows update, instead I get the aforementioned error message.

Did you check your processor against the list???

It is the gen of the processor not the size of it.

7 > 11 would be a clean install and doesn't come for free.

But computer 18 months or older than the release of 11 are not suitable to run 11.

    Specifically check this:
