New computer setup stuck on Microsoft PIN

I’m trying to setup a new Lenovo laptop for my son. He made a new Microsoft account, but we can’t get past the Microsoft PIN portion of the startup. If you try to create a PIN it says there’s a problem and you can’t, if you click the ‘skip’ button it takes you back to the login screen (same thing if you just click the ‘X’). I’ve read other threads about this but can’t even get to the steps they describe. I’ve tried restarting multiple times and using a different Microsoft account. Any help would be much appreciated.

Unfortunately I don’t get a box to enter a PIN it gets stuck on the ‘create a PIN’ screen then kicks me back to the Microsoft account login screen.

Unfortunately this didn’t work. The F12 button didn’t seem to do anything (I pressed it a bunch)

I have the same problem with my new Lenovo laptop. I manage to disable the security chip but it did not change anything. Still stuck at ”create a pin”. Any other ideas ?

    Hi Katherine,

I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

    Congratulations on the new computer.

Please power down your computer by pressing and holding power button FOR 5 SECONDS.

Next: Turn on the computer. Press F12 repeatedly until you see BIOS menu.

IN BIOS Menu, look for Intel PTT/Security Chip/TPM option. Clear the Security chip using an option provided there. Reboot and save the changes.

You should now be able to setup PIN.

Hope that helps, and rely on us for any further inquiries. All the best.
