I was playing games on my pc and crashed once. i turned it back on and reloaded the game and it kept crashing a few times. i thought the problem was to do with my driver so i went to see if there was an update. i updated the drive and had to restart my pc to put it into effect but once i restarted it the pc just froze. now when i try and turn it on it just loads into a black screen with a spinning circle while i can also move my cursor. i’ve tried a couple things but nothing seems to be working. please help!

    Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    Try to repair the Windows startup by following the steps below.

    You will need to access the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). In your case, to do this, you will repeatedly turn your device off, then on:

    1. Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device; (If the device is ON when starting the procedure)
    2. Press the power button again to turn on your device;
    3. On the first sign that Windows has started (for example, some devices display the manufacturer's logo with spinning dots when starting), hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device;
    4. Press the power button again to turn on your device;
    5. When Windows starts, hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your device;
    6. Press the power button again to turn on your device;
    7. Allow your device to fully start. You will enter WinRE.
    • On the Choose an option screen, select "Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair".

    Reference: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/rec...

    If it persists, use system restore to get Windows to the point where it was working.

    Start your computer again in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).

    • On the Choose an option screen, select "Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore" and follow the onscreen instructions.

    Feel free to ask back any questions.

    If the recovery options are not working, the recovery files might be damaged. Try to repair the Windows startup using the recovery environment from an installation media.

    If you don't have one, create one using the Media Creation Tool. Download the tool from the link below.

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2156295

    Run the tool on a working computer and follow the on-screen instructions.

    You can create the installation media on an empty USB flash drive with at least 8GB.

    With the installation media, access the recovery environment as follows:

    1. Start your computer using the installation media;
    2. Choose your language, select "Next", and click "Repair your computer".

    The suggested procedures are the same as before. "Startup Repair" and "System Restore".

    If the recovery environment options on the installation media do not help, your best option is to perform a clean install of Windows using the installation media.

    Since a clean install will delete the entire contents of the system drive, it's a good idea to back up any important files stored on the drive to an external storage device.

    Since you cannot access the system, here is a procedure that should help you to access the files stored on the computer.

    1. Start your computer using the installation media;
    2. Choose the language, select "Next", and press "Shift + F10" to open the Command Prompt;
    3. In Command Prompt, type the command below and press Enter.

    notepad

    1. Notepad will open. Click on "File" and select "Save As";
    2. A window will open that allows you to browse the files on your computer. Through this window, you can make a copy of your files.

    Note: There will be other partitions that are usually hidden in Windows. The system partition, which is usually (C:), should be (D:), and your files will be in the "Users<username>" folder.

    After backing up your files, do a clean install as instructed under "Use the installation media to perform a clean install" in the article below.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/rei...

    In your case, start the computer using the installation media and proceed from step 4.

    You can try resetting the PC through Recovery Environment. However, as the recovery files may be damaged, this procedure may not work.

    If you want to try it, start your computer in the Recovery Environment as instructed earlier and do the following:

    • On the Choose an option screen, select "Troubleshoot > Reset this PC", and then follow the on-screen instructions.

    Keep in mind that if resetting the PC fails, the Recovery Environment options on the installation media may no longer work, and you will have to do the clean install using an installation media.
