Suddenly the Right click on touchpad stopped working

Anonymous
2023-04-15T11:15:50+00:00

Laptop Lenovo Thinkbook 16P , Less than 1 year old

The Original OS was Windows 11Pro --> Right click was working OK

The Current OS is Windows 10 Pro v 22H2 built 19045.2846 (Down graded)

A few days ago the Right click stopped functioning.

What I did :

* Uninstalled & Reinstalled the Hid drivers a couple of times

* Tried numerous suggestions from online, no doubt I missed the correct one,, I could not do many suggestions, as it involved being able to right click

* Tried two (external) USB mouses and also in Safe mode.

* Updated all software and recommended drivers from Lenovo

* Running in SAFE mode , there is NO right click either

I can't think of a reason, as to WHY R. click stopped working, was doing nothing out of the ordinary.

I generally get stuff sorted, but this one.................

Can someone please help?

Many thanks

    Hi Adri-wens,

Based on your description of the issue, it seems like you have already performed some of the basic troubleshooting steps. I would like to suggest a couple of additional steps that you can try to fix the issue.

Firstly, you can try running the built-in and guided walkthrough Windows Update troubleshooter. You can do this by pressing the Windows Key+X, clicking on Settings, then Update & security, Troubleshoot, and then selecting Windows Update and running the troubleshooter.

Another thing you can try is checking your mouse settings. If the buttons on your mouse appear to have flipped (as in the left mouse button right-clicks and vice-versa), you can use the Settings app in Windows 10 to fix that. Open the Start menu and select Settings > Select Devices > Switch to the Mouse side-tab.

I hope this suggestions will help you fix the issue. Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Best regards,

    John D.

    Thank you John D.

Sorry, It is not hardware problem , it is a software setting problem.

I probably did not make myself clear.

    Ill try again.

Right click physically works, but is just open a file or folder and does NOT bring up the context menu.

Right click does the same action as left click

As mentioned, I tried 2 working external mouse, and right click gives the exact same result as left click.

According to what i have read online, this seems to be a elusive problem.

Would you or anyone have got any more suggestions?

    Thanks

    Jo

    Hi John D

    Thanks for the quick answer.

I ran ALL the trouble shooters yesterday and no problems were reported, also I swapped mouse buttons, back and frd and back again.

Someone suggested to add 2 registry keys in Current user----CLSID, but that did no work either, so I deleted it both of them, The one that I remember was called InprocServer32 and the other one had a long hexadecimal number in curly brackets.

    Hi Adri-wens,

Thank you for getting back to me and letting me know that you have already tried running all the troubleshooters and swapping mouse buttons, but the issue with the right-click button still persists. I understand that someone suggested adding registry keys in Current user----CLSID, but that did not work either, and you have deleted them.

Based on your description, it seems like you have already tried all possible software-related solutions, and the issue may be related to a hardware problem. If your laptop is still under warranty, I would recommend contacting Lenovo support to report the issue and arrange for a repair or replacement.

If the laptop is not under warranty, you may want to take it to a professional repair technician to diagnose and fix the issue.

I hope this information is helpful.

    Best regards,

    John D.

Hi Adri-wens, thank you for clarifying the issue.

From what you have described, it appears that the right-click button is functioning, but it is not bringing up the context menu, and it is behaving like the left-click button. This could be due to a conflict with some software settings or a corrupted Windows installation.

One possible solution that you can try is resetting the Windows Explorer settings to default. You can do this by following these steps:

    > Press Windows Key+R to open the Run dialog box

    > Type "cmd" in the Run box and press Enter to open the Command Prompt

    > Type "taskkill /f /im explorer.exe" without the quotes and press Enter to close the Windows Explorer

    > Type "start explorer.exe" without the quotes and press Enter to start the Windows Explorer again

    > Check if the right-click button is working correctly now

If this does not resolve the issue, you can try performing a system restore to a previous point in time when the right-click button was working correctly. To do this, you can follow these steps:

    > Press the Windows key and type "System Restore"

    > Select "Create a restore point"

    > Click on the "System Restore" button

    > Select a restore point from a date when the right-click button was working correctly

    > Follow the prompts to restore your system to that point in time

I hope that one of these solutions will help you resolve the issue with your laptop's right-click button. If the issue persists, you may want to contact Lenovo support for further assistance or take your laptop to a professional for repair.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Best regards,

    John D.
