If you're seeing the message "Turn on Windows Firewall. Windows Firewall is turned off" even though you've confirmed that your Windows Firewall is actually enabled, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and fix the issue:
- Check Windows Firewall settings: Double-check that Windows Firewall is indeed turned on and configured correctly. Here's how you can do that:
. Type "Windows Security" in the search bar on your Windows taskbar and open the app.
. In Windows Security, click on "Firewall & network protection" in the left-hand menu.
. Under "Firewall & network protection settings," click on "Domain network," "Private network," and "Public network" one by one, and ensure that the toggle switch next to "Firewall" is turned on for all three network types.
- Reset Windows Firewall settings: If you suspect that the Windows Firewall settings may have been corrupted, you can try resetting them to default. Here's how:
. Type "cmd" in the search bar on your Windows taskbar.
. Right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator."
. In the Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter: "netsh advfirewall reset"
. Restart your computer and see if the issue is resolved.
- Restart the Windows Firewall Service:
. Press "Windows Key + R" on your keyboard to open the Run dialog box.
. Type "services.msc" and hit Enter.
. Look for "Windows Firewall" in the list of services, right-click it, and select "Restart".
- Check third-party security software: If you have other security software, such as Malwarebytes or any other antivirus program, installed on your computer, it's possible that they may be conflicting with Windows Firewall. Try temporarily disabling or uninstalling any third-party security software and see if the issue goes away.
- Run the Windows Firewall Troubleshooter:
. Open Windows Security > Firewall & network protection > click on "Troubleshoot firewall".
. Follow the on-screen instructions to resolve any detected issues.
- Perform a system restore: If the issue started after you used the Malwarebytes Support Tool to repair Windows Firewall, you can try performing a system restore to revert your computer to a previous state before the repair was done. Here's how:
. Type "System Restore" in the search bar on your Windows taskbar and open the app.
. Click on "Open" to launch the System Restore wizard.
. Follow the on-screen instructions to select a restore point that was created before the issue occurred, and initiate the system restore process.
