Why is the latest update so exasperating and failing to install?

I have had the following message on my computer for ages now:

Complete updates to maintain security of your device.

Your device is missing important security updates.Make sure to keep your device on and plugged in so updates can complete.

I spent all day on Tuesday this week, from dawn to bloody dusk trying to resolve this problem by attempting to download and install the update and by following  all of the unnecessarily convoluted steps described on the webpage below (see the link below),and then by repeatedly attempting to download and install the update.

2023 Fix: Windows 11 Cumulative Update Failed to Download and Install - EaseUS
https://www.easeus.com/backup-recovery/windows-11-cumulative-update-failed-to-download-and-install.html#3

I have attempted to download and install that update innumerable times every day since Tuesday this week, including today and all I keep getting is the same deeply irritating, inane message below:

2023-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5023706)

Install error - 0x800f0988

Even when my computer claims that the update has been successfully installed,as it has done twice now and then tells me that I am up to date,as soon as I check again that same exasperating message keeps appearing each time.

My computer is <Removed> about until the end of time and I am quite frankly sick of being pissed about by my computer and I am not prepared to tolerate anymore of it.

Please can you tell me why that update is refusing to download and install  despite all my best efforts for the last four days now.And yes I have tried turning my computer off and then on again. And yes my computer is always connected to the internet. And yes I do always have enough data.

All of the apps and other processes work fine on my computer and always have done, and I have never had problems downloading and installing updates until now.

There must be a serious flaw in the update described if it is going out of its way not to install no matter what I do.

I now have a computer that is permanently vulnerable to security risks if I cannot get that intensely annoying problem resolved.

I was able to download and install all updates apart from itunes. But then I tried to update itunes again which succeeded on the second attempt.I then performed a clean boot and tried to download and install the update again, but once more the message in the image below showed up.

I had previously reported the matter to Microsoft via the feedback hub as you suggested.

Do you suggest that I remove itunes from my computer?

I addition to what I stated above I have checked the update again and the following came up (see the screenshot below):

I am clearly going around in circles and banging my head against a brick wall (figuratively speaking) in attempting to install that update.

Just for test, uninstall iTunes and restart your PC and see if that solve the problem.

Have a look at Windows Update log files:

    windowsupdate.log C:\Windows\Logs\WindowsUpdate
    UpdateSessionOrchestration.etl C:\ProgramData\USOShared\Logs
    NotificationUxBroker.etl C:\ProgramData\USOShared\Logs
    CBS.log %systemroot%\Logs\CBS

You might find some clues on what causing the problem.

Are you able to download and install other updates without problem?

Open start and search for feedback and open the Feedback Hub app and report this issue.

Try performing Clean Boot and run Windows Update and see if it works?
