Fantastic. Thank you! I think this question go to be a little confusing. I also think people confuse Auto Save with Auto Recover. And the fact, that Auto Save provides a toggle switch directly on the document page. It is also (or should I say "was) part of the Customize Quick Access Toolbar which is part of the document page. Being that it was available as a quick access, one could keep it visible, or hide it. But, nevertheless, it was available to use or not.
Is there AutoSave in WORD?
I use WORD for all my documents that I create. I was using the auto save feature which prevented the constant pop-up of the "Do you want to save changes" every time I closed out and it automatically saved my work. Today my laptop received an update and I no longer see a way for me to Auto Save. My settings are correct (File, Options, Save: Save Auto Recovery..., Keep the last Auto Recovered version... But I no longer have the Auto Save toggle; it is no where to be found. So now, every time I close out a document, I get the usual dialog box of "Do you want to save your changes?" My answer to this question is always YES. I sense that Auto Save is not a feature of WORD and, as I read on line, it is for MS Office 365. If that is so, why did I have it a few days ago, right after the windows 11 install? Then the update took it away.

2023-04-29T17:04:27+00:00 Hi again -
I've asked the top Office MVP Diane Poremsky who is likely the best office expert there is, about this and will let you know what she says, or she may post here.

2023-04-29T14:10:39+00:00 I have never used the current MS 365 (it wouldn't be possible since I would have to search for it my apps in order to engage it, furthermore I am completely unfamiliar with it. Since then, I have looked at it and it is very different than the way things look when I open up Word. While one could access Word there, I tried it and noticed how long it took to load and it took me to OneDrive. It was both complicated, and time ineffective; I will never and couldn't have ever "accidentally" opened it from here. I access my daily document in Word from the icon in my taskbar. It engages immediately and my document pops up immediately. Again, after installing Windows 11 I noticed something new when I opened up my document it was the Auto Save TOGGLE On/off in the upper left corner and I turned it on (my settings in File,Options, Save were already accurate since they are default settings by MS--but I did change the Save Auto Recover to every one minute as opposed to the preset 10 minutes). I liked the feature of how the Auto Save when it was turned ON because this Toggle eliminated the constant pop-up dialog box of being asked every single time I closed a document, if I wanted to save my changes. All I was wondering about if the Auto Save TOGGLE On/Off switch is no longer a feature for Word 2016; not "how to" engage Auto Recover in its settings. This seems to be an unknown and, at this point, it is safe to say we can call it quits on this one and I will live with it the way it is. Thank you for your efforts.

2023-04-29T02:06:20+00:00 Thanks for clarifying you never bought MS 365. The only reason I suspected you might have used Microsoft 365 in addition to your owned Office Suite is that MS 365 comes preinstalled on all new PC's bought in the store and sometimes gets opened and used accidentally, even when another Office suite is installed. That's the reason I suggested that if you don't want MS 365 to make sure it's uninstalled in App Settings under Microsoft Office 365. Then it won't get accidentally opened which might be where you saw Autosave.
Don't worry if you have preinstalled MS Office 365 that uninstalling it will affect any files you may have created with it. Those will change to Office 2016 by default, and if not I will help you change them. It's as easy as right clicking on the Word file to choose Properties, then Open With: Office 2016, ticking the box to always open this file type with this app.

2023-04-28T19:35:32+00:00 Since I do not use MS 365 I would not have seen the Auto Save. I do not own Microsoft 365 and have never used it. I do use WORD and keep the badge on my toolbar. The Auto Save Toggle On/Off was visible in the upper right corner when would open a document in WORD. While Microsoft 365 includes the version of WORD, I have never used and do not plan to use Microsoft 365.
