Win11 setting monitor as default audio device

I have 2 audio devices, the monitor and the audio jack on the back of the machine.

When I select the audio jack I have the option to set it as the default audio device, which I don't want.

When I select the monitor I do not have the option to set it as the default audio device, which I do want

how can I get what I want?

Thanks,

DougM

    Hello Doug, this is Emily.

    Try this instead.

Hold down Windows + R keys, then type in mmsys.cpl and hit enter.

When launched, you should see at least two playback devices listed, your line-in jack and your monitor, wording can be slightly different.

You can right click on the monitor and make it defaul device there, make sure it is default device, not default communication device. If for any reason the monitor one is grayed out, right click and enable it first.

Unfortunately the problem has returned. This time it manifests as the monitor's audio device is literally disappearing from my choices of audio devices.

So the sound starts going to headphones, I go in and attempt to select the monitor and there is no choice. There is only 1 device listed.

Unfortunately no, even when I specifically assign Teams to the monitor it still goes to the headphones. The only way around it was to disable the headphones and then it will work correctly, but of course then I don't have the option to assign Pandora because the headphones are disabled.

Just for reference everything worked as expected under Win10.

Hi Doug, In the first screenshot, it already shows that the monitor is "default device". You can see it has the green check mark on it too. Does the sound not play via the monitor?

Thank you Emily but unfortunately the option is not available via that menu either. It's exactly the same
