My fingerprint login suddenly stopped working, how do I fix it?

I always used to sign in with my fingerprint, but one day it suddenly stopped working and was not shown as a sign in option. When I went to sign in options in settings, Fingerprint Recognition was, and still is labelled as 'This option is currently unavailable'. When expanded, Windows Hello says 'Something went wrong. Try again later'. I have done so multiple times but the message is always the same. I tried following the solutions from Microsoft Office Support:

  1. disable and re-enable the fingerprint scanner
  2. check for updates for the fingerprint scanner
  3. restart services
  4. manually download and install drivers for the fingerprint scanner, but all of these were to no avail.

How can I fix this? Any help is appreciated, and thank you in advance to any replies. I will provide any relevant needed information.

Will you able to create new adminstrator account and then add new Microsoft account for testing purpose.

Then check fingerprint reader is available or not under new adminstrator account.

When I try this, it just says 'validating request' and then suddenly goes away. Nothing happens.

After I see this it goes away after a few seconds (even though it says it can take several minutes) and nothing happens. No downloads or request or anything.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I followed all your steps successfully but what is supposed to happen after restart? Nothing changed for me and fingerprint sign in is still labelled as unavailable. Is there anything more to the method or do you have another one? Thanks
