App start failure assistance needed.

I've been having problems getting After Effects to launch. It keeps giving me the 'Application failed to start correctly (0xc0000142)

I've probably put in a combined total of 10 hours between Adobe and Microsoft tech support to include personally exhausting web resources, multiple version attempts, complete windows re-installation, and all the different type of scanning/repairing the OS has to offer.

If there's someone who might be able to zero in on what the problem is coming from, that would be fantanstic!

and thank you.

You can check the system requirements for Adobe After Effects on the Adobe website to see the compatible hardware and operating system: After Effects System Requirements (adobe.com)

And on the manufacturer's website (I guess you are using an AMD video card?), you can find the drivers you need. Or you can contact AMD for further assistance: AMD Drivers and Support | AMD

Have you checked if your drivers are compatible, like I mentioned previously? Outdated or incompatible drivers may cause errors like the one you are experiencing.

    Yuhao!

Thanks for being willing to help with this issue. As it stands right now, I've wiped my entire C drive and launched the program with just windows and after effects. The .dll error still turns up. Thanks again!

    Hello, Reuben Kynaston

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Based on the information you provided, it seems like the issue is related to the KERNELBASE.dll file. This file is a part of the Windows operating system and is used by many applications, including Adobe After Effects. The error code 0xc0000142 is usually caused by a problem with this file.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    • Update drivers: Make sure all your hardware drivers are compatible with your OS and Adobe After Effects, especially the graphics card driver. You can download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website.
    • Run a malware scan: Run a full scan of your system using your antivirus software to make sure there are no malware or viruses causing the issue.
    • Run After Effects as an administrator: Try running Adobe After Effects as an administrator. To do this, right-click on the After Effects icon and select "Run as administrator."
    • Disable third-party plugins: If you have any third-party plugins installed in After Effects, try disabling them and see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, let us know, and we can try some other troubleshooting steps.

    Best regards

    Yuhao Li
