Hello I've noticed something after digging around for a while looking for a solution.

Despite having windows spotligh determining my desktop image, it won't work for the lock screen image.

The problem seems to be that wherever I log in with my windws account (at least 3 different computer 2 at home and 1 at work) lock screen win spotlight image stop working.

All the other accounts in the computer, it works just fine.

What is it that I have corrupted everywhere? is something related to one drive synchronization of desktop and other folders ?

Thanks a lot.

Currently the Lock Screen Windows spotlight is truly broken, and it has nothing to do with your account.

I've done a clean install of the latest "Public Release" build 22631.3155 and created a local account with all the default settings. The only thing I have done was to activate Windows with a digital license so I could access personalization. Background Windows spotlight works just fine, and a new batch of four images has appeared after about a day. Lock Screen Windows spotlight shows the default image and the calendar. That's it.

It doesn't work out of the box. I just wanted to tell you not to burden yourself with this. It's broken.

Then I've downloaded a virtual machine of the Windows 11 development environment. It is a "Public Release" build 22621.3007 of Windows 11 Enterprise Evaluation edition, version 22H2 from January 2024. Lock Screen Windows spotlight works just fine on this virtual machine!

TLDR: It used to work, but currently it's broken.

Open Windows Settings and inside the search bar type: Background Apps
In the Background apps window turn on "Let apps run in background".
That's all I needed to do, but it's possible some of the apps in that list may need to be enabled. Just enable them all and see if it fixes it after a reboot. You may need to leave it on the lock screen a few seconds or maybe a second reboot for Spotlight to fully load/download, or whatever. It took me two reboots.
    Hope this helps!

This is the answer that fixed it for me.

However, if you have upgraded from Windows 10 and had background apps disabled previously, you will not be able to toggle this setting from the graphical user interface in Windows 11. You will have to delete the value "GlobalUserDisabled" from "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\BackgroundAccessApplications" using Registry Editor.

Windows 10 spotlight stopped working for me in February 2023. I tried everything- nothing worked. I kind of gave up. I was having other netwrok problems and from conline remarks I wondered if my AVG Internet Security could be causing the network problems. This is what I did:-

Windows 10 Spotlight fix when using AVG Internet Security anti virus

    1. Go into AVG Internet Security. Go to Web & Email, Go to Firewall and click on OPEN

Click on Networks. Make all Networks trusted (if you can). This includes any VPN networks if you have one.

    1. Get out of the Internet Security
    2. Run Settings. Go to Network and Internet, go to the bottom and click on Network Reset.
    3. It takes 5 minutes to re-boot you need to wait for it.
    4. Spotlight came back to life

Not sure if this is always the fix - but it does seem to have worked on two of my machines. If I hover over the upper right side and answer the question "Like the image that you see?" with a NO, it seems to roll to the next image and things work ok again. Worth trying!
