I2C HID Device - Not Starting - Code 10

Hey there,

I am not exactly a computer professional and I am having a problem that I cannot find the solution to. I have read through several (10-15) threads here at microsoft.com also Discord channels for Razer PC, and AMD Community help. I have spoken with the IT team at my workplace and I am still unable to find he solution. Thank you in advance for any help and insight.

I have a Razer Blade 14 2021 model - Windows 11.

The touchpad has had this problem for a while where it just doesn't work. Sometimes a reboot will fix it but sometimes it will go a day or two without fixing. I spoke with Razer Support about a year ago and they didn't have solutions beyond "run the updater app". The problem was occasional and would often fix with the restart. But currently my touchpad hasn't worked in over a week.

(Razer machines are prone to battery bloat and i suppose it is possible that this could be connected to something like that, but I do not believe that this is the case because of the off and on nature of the past and the touchpad clicks very well across the whole range of the device. Furthormore people who experience battery bloat often push their device harder and for longer hours / lifetime than mine. So I do not believe that this is the problem. Although maybe I guess.)

My deep internet searches have lead me all over the place but always coming back to the I2C HID Device - Error Code 10. I have read and re read so many people's solutions to no success myself.

Most of these solutions say:

  • to uninstall the device and then reboot.
  • maybe try a full reboot of the machine
  • try running command prompt - dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  • try running command prompt - there was another one that I can't find again - it like a driver error finder and updater?
  • go to manufacturers website and get a new driver
    • This is the biggest mystery to me
    • Razer has no drivers on their website for my device and the razer community says to get all of your drivers from the razer app on PC, or from CPU app on PC
      • I am up to date on AMD Software - CPU
      • I am up to date on Windows Updates - OS
      • I am up to date on Razer Synapse - Manufacturer
      • I am up to date on Nvidia Gforce - GPU
      • NONE of these mention - or show - or include a driver for the I2C Device

None of the solutions above have worked. I have even done a full machine factory wipe of my pc about a month ago (I like to do this about once a year anyway). I am willing to try again.

Now I am here. Can anyone give me some insight as to where I can find this driver?

    Hey there!

    Thank you for your reply.

I have worked through your those couple steps and it does not seem to have fixed my problem.

    1. I already have the newer bios (I discovered when following your steps).
    2. I uninstalled all of the Razer Synapse and similar things and Reinstalled Synapse. This did not lead to an immediate fix.

I need to go back to my chores though. This was a good little break. I will shut down and come back later.

Let me know if you have other things that I could try.

Hi, Danny. I'm sorry to hear you're having this problem, and I hope I can assist you to find a satisfactory solution.

The mentioned driver is from usb, doesn't seem to be the problem.

I believe it could be a hardware issue, but let's do a few more steps and rule out software or drivers.

    Update the bios:

    Reinstall Synapse 3.0
