AMD Software Failed to Launch Because Windows Update Has Replaced the AMD Graphics Driver

Hi there, today I got this error:

"Windows Update may have automatically replaced your AMD Graphics driver. Hence, the version of AMD Software you have launched is not compatible with your currently installed AMD Graphics driver.

For more information on how to resolve this, please go to:

https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-300 "

The recommendation on this website is to turn off automatic updates (the website links back to this microsoft support question: How can I prevent automatic updating a specific driver in Windows 10 - Microsoft Community ) and reinstall the driver. This solution seems like it disables more than just graphics driver updates.

I am weary of changing settings, but I would like to use the AMD Graphics driver, not one that the Windows Update has selected for me... I would like to know if this, or what would be, a safe solution for me that does not interfere or negatively impact the rest of my settings?

Thanks

Hello! My name is Cristiano. I'm an Independent Advisor. I'm glad to help you.

If you see the error message "Windows Update may have automatically replaced your AMD Graphics driver," then this is what happened. As a result, the AMD Software version you launched is incompatible with the AMD Graphics driver you presently have installed. It's likely that a Windows update replaced your AMD graphics driver with one that is incompatible with the installed version of AMD Software.

You can attempt the procedures below to fix this problem:

    1. Go to the AMD website and download the most recent AMD graphics driver for your operating system.
    2. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > AMD Software, and then click Uninstall to remove the AMD Software that is currently installed.
    3. Reboot your computer.
    4. After downloading the most recent AMD graphics driver from the AMD website, install it.
    5. Reboot your computer again.

Your AMD graphics driver should be updated and compatible with the AMD Software when you complete these procedures. You can turn off automatic driver updates if you do not want Windows Update to replace your graphics driver in the future.

To do this, go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced choices > Choose how updates are delivered > Updates from more than one place. Toggle it off to prevent future updates from causing driver issues.

    I hope this is useful.

I am unable to follow this step:

To do this, go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced choices > Choose how updates are delivered > Updates from more than one place. Toggle it off to prevent future updates from causing driver issues.

This is because "Advanced choices > Choose how updates are delivered" is not an option for me.

You have an answer for Windows 11 Pro? Microsoft seems to have removed that option.

For this did not help. I stuck with this issue since 2 years. Switched also from Windows 10 to Windows 11 with in total 3 new installations. (One with an IT expert). Still no help !

    I'm sorry to hear that!

Since you're using Windows 10, there is another way to disable driver updates through Windows Update. Here's how:

    >> Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

    >> Click on "View update history."

    >> Click on "Uninstall updates."

    >> Find the most recent update for your graphics driver (it may be listed under "Microsoft Windows" or "Windows" updates) and select it.

    >> Click on "Uninstall" and follow the prompts to remove the update.

By doing this, you can stop Windows from installing your graphics driver automatically and erase the most current update. It's important to remember that this only applies to updates that have already been installed.

    I hope this helps!
