Why can't apps access my microphone even when I enable microphone access? In other words, apps can't receive input from any mic I use.

No matter what mic I use, input audio doesn't work. The regular output audio works fine. I don't know why, but it just happened the other day for no apparent reason. I've tried BiOS, I've tried restarting my computer, I've tried everything I've researched and can think of. Unfortunately, NOTHING is working. If there's a way to completely reset all the audio devices and settings, I would like to do that. Kind of like a factory reset for audio. No matter what app or browser I use, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Opera GX, or Discord, Sound Recorder (built-in), I can't get ANY audio input!!

Please respond with anything, as this is very frustrating.

I've already tried using Get Help and troubleshooting. I've looked up other stuff on the community and Microsoft help.

Hi, I am Dhanam, Independent Advisor here to work with you on this issue.

I know this has been difficult for you, Rest assured, I'm going to do my best to help you.

Make sure apps have access to the microphone

If your microphone isn't detected after updating to Windows 11, you may need to give your apps permission to use it. Here's how: Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone and make sure Microphone access is turned on.

Also, refer to this page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix...

Uninstall your audio driver and Restart

In the search box on the taskbar, type device manager, then select it from the results.

Select the arrow next to Sound, video, and game controllers to expand it.

Right-click the listing for your sound card or audio device, select Uninstall device, select the Delete the driver software for this device check box, and then select Uninstall.

Uninstall all Audio drivers under Sound, video, and game controllers.

    Restart your PC.

Note: Be sure to save documents and any other current work before you restart.

After this restart, Windows will automatically reinstall your audio driver and your issue will be fixed.

    Hello Someone Frustrated

    • What are the types of connectors of your mic ?
    • Are you allowed to use the mic ?
    • Are you allowed to use background apps ?
    • Did you allow notifications anytime ?

The connectors of my mic are in the audio port, as normal.

I am allowed to use the mic.

I am allowed to use background apps.

I don't understand what you mean by notifications, could you brief me on what that is?

Unfortunately, this isn't working. I've already allowed access, and when I tried uninstalling the drivers and devices it didn't solve the problem. Here is some information that could be important:

I can see in the bottom right corner of the taskbar it shows an audio icon with a hover-text saying "Apps using your microphone: 'apps'"

I did notice that the audio quality of my device was significantly better after the driver and device uninstalling.

    Thanks in advance.
