Windows 11 memory problems

Hello,

I have recently bought a new PC and installed windows 11 on it. All drivers are up to date, Windows updates are all installed, there are no corrupt files in any of the apps mentioned nor in the system itself.

Specs:

RTX 4090

i9 13900k on PRO Z790 motherboard

128 GB RAM

I have encountered a plethora of problems with many different apps including but not limited to:

Discord, Chrome, Cinema 4D, Notion...

Apps just crash at random points with no apparent reason. Individual Chrome tabs close with a memory error. Assassin's Creed Valhalla straight out crashed the system to blue screen couple of times with different memory issues each time, but the common theme is memory access violation. At first I brushed it off thinking it's just a game problem but as I said a lot of other apps started to just crash without errors as well. Since Chrome also hinted at the memory issue, and Game support said that they don't recommend playing on Win 11, I googled and found out that Windows 11 might have memory issues so here I am.

I will probably be downgrading to Win 10 anyways but I still wanted to give it a chance to see if anyone has a solution.

Thanks.

    Hey John,

So I have not experienced any more issues with any other apps up to this point so I decided to try Valhalla today and it crashed again with windows reporting another LiveKernelEvent 141 error.

Done some digging again and it is most likely to be a windows issue but just for that one game. Very weird.

I'll keep win 11 for now since I have no other problems anymore and not playing Valhalla is not such a big deal.

Just if/when I downgrade back to 10 is there a way to keep a majority of my files and programs. I have two hard drives and the one without windows won't be erased, right?

    Thanks for all the help.

    Hi Mateo,

Thanks for sharing that information with me. Since you're using your PC for demanding 3D work, it's not surprising that you have several apps open at once and are utilizing a significant portion of your RAM.

However, it's worth noting that even with 128 GB of RAM, there can be limitations to how much memory certain apps or games can access at a given time.

Regarding the issues you experienced even when nothing else was running, it could be worth running a diagnostic test to check for any underlying hardware issues that may be causing the crashes.

As for performance tests and disabling startup programs, those can be helpful in identifying potential culprits for the memory access violations. It's possible that there are background processes or programs that are taking up memory and causing conflicts with the apps you're running.

I suggest try running some performance tests and disabling unnecessary startup programs to see if that helps alleviate the issue.

    Hi Mateo,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your new PC and Windows 11.

Before we discuss potential solutions, can you tell me a bit more about how you've been using your PC? Do you typically have many apps open at the same time? Are you running any demanding programs or games?

Additionally, have you tried running any diagnostics or performance tests on your PC to see if there are any underlying hardware issues?

Based on your description, it does seem that Windows 11 may be causing memory access violations. While downgrading to Windows 10 may be a solution, we can also explore some troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve the issue without resorting to a downgrade.

For example, have you tried disabling any unnecessary startup programs or services? Are there any background processes that are taking up a lot of memory that you can close?

Let's work together to find a solution that works for you and your PC.

    Best regards,

    John D.

Hey here is what I found in Diagnostics Data Viewer. I have had 3 different hardware issues in the last 2 or so months, LikeKernelEvent 117, 141 and 193.

They repeat a couple of times, haven't seen it since I last played Valhalla. I plan on running a GPU stress test to see if there is an issue there. It's weird that this never happened with Unreal Engine and that's the most demanding thing I use.

Here is the full log of issues

    Hello John,

    Thanks for a quick reply.

I use my PC for 3D work so yeah I have quite a few apps open at any given moment but it’s never above maybe 60 GB RAM total at the most demanding things like Unreal Engine 5 rendering.

I had a problems when nothing else was running, straight from logging in.

With that said I haven’t tried any performance tests or disabling any startup programs.
