My HP Envy laptop runs an Intel Core i7 7500U (dual core) processor. Why is this processor not approved to run Windows 11?

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

Unfortunately, your processor is not on the supported processor list for Windows 11.

See the link below for supported processors for Windows 11.

Microsoft does not recommend installing Windows 11 on computers that are not supported. Your device may malfunction due to compatibility or other issues.

In the article below, you will find more details about the principles that guided the minimum system requirements for Windows 11.

Some users, like me, are installing Windows 11 on an unsupported computer, and the system has been stable. But some users are not so lucky.
I have Windows 11 installed on a 4th generation Intel processor. The system has not had any problems so far.

If you still want to install Windows 11 on a computer that doesn't meet the minimum requirements, you can install it at your own risk, as shown under "Other ways to install Windows 11 (not recommended)" in the article below.

Feel free to ask back any questions.

It helps to understand that Windows 11 is basically a security upgrade with a theme pack.

Processors on the unapproved list crashed in testing against the new security features in Windows 11. This isn't about whether a given processor is 'good enough' for Windows 11. Older processors simply don't have the microcode to work well with the new Windows code.
