How do I temporarily disable windows defender?

I am trying to temporarily disable windows defender on a PC running windows 11. I am not interested in getting a third party security program.

When trying to install a program I know for sure is safe as I run it on my other pc, defender blocks the installation and deletes some files.

I have not seen this in all PCs running windows 11, only this one.

I of course know how to normally disable defender, but the toggle will not switch off, I also don't get any prompts or error messages, but the setting doesn't change at all even temporarily.

Hi, Verónica. I'm Robinson, and I’m happy to help you today.

This could be a bug in the Windows Security app, repairing and resetting it should fix the problem.

1-Click on Start then click on Settings

2-Click on Apps then click on Installed apps

3-Search for Windows security, then click on the three dots(...) and click on "Advanced option"

4-Scroll down, then click on Repair and Reset

When finished, open the Windows Defender and try to disable it again. You can see how to do it at this link.

As the Windows Defender is deleting the program files, adding the program installation files to Windows Defender exclusion should work better than disabling the Windows Defender. You can see at this link how to add an exclusion to Windows Security.
