Im not able to download new updates to Windows 11. When I go to the Settings and click Download on the update just finishes to 100 percent in few minutes but actually does nothing and the Error shows up. I can retry as many times as I want but nothing happens.

I tried:

Cleaning up my disk (I have 65gb of free space on my C: drive)

Restarting the pc several times

Using the Update troubleshooter (Keeps getting stuck)

Restarting the services: Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Windows Update

Syncing my time on the PC

Running sfc /scannow in the cmd

Manually installing the update with the package from the update catalog

(When I try to do that it just doesnt work. I gave it several minutes and it just said the installation is unsuccessfull and when I tried it a few times it just gets stuck on Installing)

Yet nothing is working and im still stuck with this.

I would really appreciate any help

    Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    I suggest doing the following:

    Rename the software distribution folders as instructed below:

    1. Open Start and type cmd, right-click on "Command Prompt", and select "Run as administrator".
    2. Run the following commands at the Command Prompt one at a time:

    net stop bits

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptsvc

    ren %systemroot%\softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.bak

    ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak

    net start bits

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptsvc

    1. After all these commands are completed, close the Command Prompt window, restart your computer, and then try to update Windows.

    If it persists, I suggest you do an In-place Upgrade. This procedure reinstalls Windows, which helps to fix problems.

    But don't worry. You have the option to keep files, settings, and apps.

    1. Download the Windows 11 ISO file from the link below;

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

    1. Double-click the ISO to run;
    2. On the "Install Windows 11" screen, uncheck "I want to help make the installation of Windows better" and select "Change how Windows Setup download updates";
    3. On the next screen, select "Not right now" and click "Next";
    4. Accept the terms of use;
    5. On the "Ready to install" screen, select "Choose what to keep" and select what you want to keep.
    6. Click on "Install" and wait for the procedure to finish. Your computer may restart several times.

    The update may be installed during In-place Upgrade. Therefore, it may no longer appear in Windows Update.

    Feel free to ask back any questions.

    I spent a week trying everything under the sun as shown by Google search results within YouTube.

    Nothing worked.

    And I mean nothing.

    40 hours of wasted time.

    In the end, I booted from a USB created Windows 11 installation media device and doing a clean install of windows 11 it gave me the opportunity to NUKE every partition on my C: drive (disk 0) - of which were 4.

    After a fresh, and I mean fresh from 0 partitions all worked as it should, update completed no problem.

    Something in one of the old partitions was hanging things up.

    Wish I had done this about 3 or 4 hours into this effort.

    Hello David

    Thank you very much for helping me fix this problem.

    The In-place Upgrade did it for me. After downloading a few updates my system is up to date.
    Next time I have a problem like this I know what to do

    Thank you once again and have a nice day
