Hello Selina2_IC
Welcome to the Microsoft Community.
Based on your current description, it seems that the Nightlight function will not keep the original settings, am I right? If so, could you please provide some details so we can better investigate this issue together:
- Press and hold Windows+R > Type winver.exe > Take a screenshot of the current system version information and share it with me > Find out the Windows version information to help us observe from the update log whether this problem is identified as a known problem.
- Have you made any recent changes to your computer, such as third-party optimization software or antivirus software? Such software may interfere with some functions of the computer.
- In order to investigate whether other software is causing this problem, please try to perform a clean boot on the computer, and use the NightLight function again in this mode to see if everything works. Follow this official article from Microsoft and perform a clean boot: How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support
Disclaimer : A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem. These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get you back on track.
There are two possible solutions that you can try to fix this issue.
Update or reinstall your display driver. This may help if the Night Light feature is not compatible with your current driver or if the driver is outdated or corrupted. To do this, follow these steps:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Display adapters category and right-click on your display device.
- Select Update driver and choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest driver.
- If that doesn’t work, repeat steps 2 and 3 but choose Uninstall device instead of Update driver.
- Restart your PC and Windows will automatically reinstall the display driver.
The second option is to reset the Night Light settings using the Registry Editor. This may help if the settings are corrupted or conflicting with other programs. To do this, follow these steps:
- Press Windows key + R and Type regedit and click OK to open Registry Editor.
- In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CloudStore\Store\DefaultAccount
- Under the Cloud key and locate the following keys: windows.data.bluelightreduction.bluelightreductionstate windows.data.bluelightreduction.settings
- Right-click on the first key and select Delete.
- Repeat step 4 for the second key.
- Once you have deleted both the keys, close Registry Editor.
- Restart your PC and set up Night Light to start using it again.
Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. I hope one of these solutions works for you and you can enjoy using Night Light on your Windows 10 computer again
