Why does launching any game lower my refresh rate?

Basicly after upgrading to win11 launching any game causes my refresh rate change to 60 from 75, even tho i chose the 75hz option in the advanced display settings and yes i did change the refresh rate in my game settings also. I have an RX570 graphics card and a PL2730H iiyama display. I have 2 displays actually where one is 60hz but even after unplugging it and changing it again to 75hz the problem still occurs.

Edit: FIXED, just had to download windows display drivers via windows update

    Alright, got it!

So we need to explore some other possibilities.

It's peculiar that when you try to change the refresh rate in Windows display settings while the game is running, it immediately snaps back to 60Hz. This behavior suggests that there might be some kind of conflict happening between the game and the operating system.

Here's a suggestion to troubleshoot further:

    1. Check for any game-specific settings or configurations related to refresh rate. Some games have their own settings that override the system settings. Look for an option within the game's graphics or display settings that could be forcing a 60Hz refresh rate.
    2. Disable any overlays or third-party software that might be interfering with the game or the refresh rate. Sometimes, programs like Discord, GeForce Experience, or recording software can cause conflicts. Try closing them or disabling any related features temporarily and see if the refresh rate behaves differently.
    3. Check for any game patches or updates. It's worth ensuring that the game you're playing is up to date, as developers often release updates that address performance and compatibility issues.
    4. Reach out to the game's official support or community forums for assistance. They might have encountered similar issues with Windows 11 and could provide specific troubleshooting steps or insights.

Hopefully, these suggestions will help you.

    Got it, let's continue troubleshooting.

    1. Based in your YouTube video, it seems that the frame rate doesn't get capped at lower resolutions but does at higher resolutions. That's an interesting observation! It suggests that there might be some limitation or bottleneck related to your graphics card or system resources when playing at higher resolutions.

Since the issue is specific to higher resolutions, you could try the following steps:

    • Check if your graphics card has any specific settings or limitations regarding higher resolutions. Some graphics cards have predefined settings that prioritize stability over higher frame rates at higher resolutions. Look for options related to resolution scaling or performance settings in your graphics card control panel.
    • It's also worth checking the system requirements for the game. Ensure that your graphics card meets or exceeds the recommended requirements for playing at higher resolutions. If it doesn't, you might need to consider upgrading your graphics card to achieve the desired performance.
    1. I understand that disabling overlays or third-party software didn't help. It seems like the issue goes beyond those factors. Don't worry; we'll keep exploring other possibilities.
    2. Good to know that your game is up to date. Having the latest version helps ensure that you have any performance improvements or bug fixes that could address the issue.
    3. If you've exhausted all other options and the problem persists, reaching out to the game's official support or community forums would be a great next step. They have experts who are familiar with the game's intricacies and might have encountered similar issues before. They can provide more targeted assistance based on their experience.

In the meantime, you could also try searching for other users who might have encountered a similar problem. Online gaming communities and forums can be a valuable resource for finding potential solutions or workarounds.

    I hope this helps!

Hello! My name is Cristiano. I'm an Independent Advisor. I'm glad to help you.

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you could try:

    1. Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your RX570 graphics card. You can download the latest drivers from the AMD website.
    2. Make sure that you have your PL2730H iiyama display set to the correct refresh rate. You can check this by going to Settings > System > Display > Advanced display settings > Display adapter properties > Monitor and selecting the correct refresh rate.
    3. Make sure that your game is set to 75Hz refresh rate in the game settings.
    4. Game DVR is a Windows 11 feature that can sometimes cause issues with game performance. You can disable it by going to Settings > Gaming > Game DVR and switching off the toggle.
    5. Make sure that you are using a high-quality DisplayPort or HDMI cable that can support 75Hz refresh rate.
    6. Sometimes running a game in fullscreen mode can cause issues with refresh rate. Trying running the game in borderless windowed mode and see if that helps.

Hopefully one of these steps will help resolve your refresh rate issue.
