Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)

My USB ports stopped working well, I would plug in my phone and it would only charge not giving me the option for file transfer, I can't even hear the connection sound of the USB.

I tried updating my USB drivers, when I tried updating the USB composite device, out of curiosity I unchecked the "compatible hardware" check box and I saw unknown USB drivers (port reset failed). I figured this is the root of the issue but I thought that error should have been on the main device manager under USB. It isn't there, so I don't know how I can uninstall these unknown device since I can't see them on device manager. Please, I sthere any way that I can find them and uninstall them without device manager?

I was just having the same issue with the Microsoft headphones which I use for my Surface Pro 9.

The error occurred after I had unplugged the Surface Pro from the hub and used the Pro and hub together while I was "road mobile" for a day.

I use the hub to power my Surface Pro, my wireless mouse, and headphones.

I started getting the "Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)" error when I was back home and plugged the headphones back in to the hub.

The successful fix action ended being the first step that I should have taken from the git-go. I unplugged the power connection for the hub, which forced a complete device reset. The error cleared, and now I am back to successfully using my headphones.

Good day! I'm Dhanam a Windows user like you and I'll be happy to assist you today. I know this has been difficult for you, Rest assured, I'm going to do my best to help you.

One way to determine where the problem lies is to plug the device into another USB port. If it works perfectly, then the issue is with the port; if not, the device may be broken. We recommend you try using the USB device on another computer to be sure if it’s broken.

    Uninstall the USB drivers

Click Start and open the Device Manager.

Click the drop-down button for Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

Right-click on Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed) and click on Uninstall to remove the device.

Restart your PC. (Windows will reinstall the device automatically on startup)

I hope this will fix your issue.

    Regards

    Dhanam.

Sorry, I refer you try In-place upgrade is a process wherein it will upgrade the device to the latest version and repair many issues without deleting any files. Usually, it is used to repair corrupted system files, apps, and even incompatible drivers on the system.https://youtu.be/CAOwN68AInE

If you still issue please contact your device manufacturer to fix this issue.

I've tried all this fixes, none of them worked. I've plugged my USB devices to another pc, and they work perfectly. I have only two USB ports on my laptop and neither of them is working. I've had this problem for almost two weeks, trying fix after fix none works. I've even tried resetting my PC via windows media installer yet the issue persisted. Could it be a hardware problem? Do I have to unscrew my PC?
