Hi Cariel,
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.
I can help you with that.
Microsoft Remote Desktop and Remote Desktop Connection are two different remote desktop applications. They both allow you to connect from your Mac computer to a Windows computer and work on a Windows computer.
Microsoft Remote Desktop is a new application for Windows 10 with a modern design and a clean user interface. You can download and install it from the Microsoft Store.
Remote Desktop Connection is an older application that has been around for over a decade and has barely changed. It is available for Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, but does not support Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) or later.
Both applications have roughly the same functionality, but Microsoft Remote Desktop may have better performance and compatibility.
Regarding CVE-2023-28290, this is a remote code execution vulnerability that affects Windows Server. If you use Remote Desktop Connection or Remote Desktop to connect to an affected server, you could be vulnerable to an attack. Microsoft has released a security update to fix this vulnerability.
