Pressing the enter key moves the cursor to the next line instead of sending message in Whatsapp and Chatgpt. This issue was not present in the discord application.

This happens on my external keyboard, the laptop's inbuilt keyboard as well and the on-screen keyboard available in Windows 11.

    Dear PratikPanda

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are currently in both whatsapp and chatgpt and pressing "enter" will change the line instead of sending a message. You are getting the same result with external keyboard, on-screen keyboard and inbuilt keyboard.

I can understand that the problem is causing you trouble, and I will do my best to provide you with advice and assistance. However, as the cause of the problem is complex, we may not be able to solve the problem with one attempt. If the current reply fails to resolve your issue, you can share the latest progress with me.Through your sharing, we can further identify the problem so that we can take further options.

Which browser are you using chat gpt in? As far as chat gpt is concerned, it doesn't have the ability to hold down the enter key to change lines per se, so your issue could be due to the browser or a third party software. Combined with the fact that you are also having the same problem with whatsapp, we are inclined to conclude that the problem is related to the third party software at the moment.

Please try the following steps and share the results with me.

    • Create a local account

Creating a new local account can help you troubleshoot problems caused by user profiles.Create a local user or administrator account in Windows - Microsoft Support。 If the problem disappears after creating a new local account, the problem may be caused by missing or corrupted user profiles for the original account. You can transfer your existing data to a new account.

    • Exclude interference from third-party software.

Interference from third party software may be causing the problem.I recommend trying a clean boot which starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It can be used to determine whether a background service or program is interfering or causing a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step.

If the problem does not appear after a clean start, the error report is related to third party software. (If you have third party protection software installed, such as 360, McAfee etc., please uninstall the third party protection software before a clean start)

Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we look forward to your reply.

    Best Regards,
