Destination Folder Access Denied: You need permission to perform this action | Never goes away

Hello,

I am trying to copy a folder into another folder in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps, I know the risks involved with doing this and I am sure I want to continue. However, no matter what I do, this "Destination Folder Access Denied" error never goes away. I have given myself ownership of the folder in WindowsApps and set "everyone" permissions to full control. I have also turned off read-only. No matter what I do, this error keeps popping up.

How do I allow myself to copy something into a sub-folder of WindowsApps?

    Hi, Dhanam.

I have already tried both of those, both to no avail.

The permissions on that folder are much stricter than the parent "Program Files" folder. It's done that way so that Store apps are better protected than traditional apps. You're definitely not meant to make manual changes to that folder. Permission changes to that folder can only be done via the "TrustedInstaller" account, so you would need to use a tool such as PowerRun or AdvancedRun to do that.

I do not recommend that you mess with that folder in any way, but if you're determined, please first make an image backup of your whole drive using a tool such as Macrium Reflect or Clonezilla.

Note: The "in-place upgrade", recommended in another reply, is only going to restore the default permissions. That's something you can do if you have messed with that folder and want to get it back to its default settings. Of course, you should also have your full image backup to turn to in case it all goes sideways.

P.S. The "read-only" setting that appears on the folder is present on all folders and is essentially meaningless. Messing with that is a waste of time.

Following along exactly matching my own Windows screen options. Step #9 says click Edit--but it's not visible at this step. Something is missing.

    1. Click the "Edit" button.
    2. Click on your username from the list.
    3. Check "Full control" underneath it.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Click OK again.

After Steps #5-8, I'm back at the same dialog box as step #5 with the Owner now being my user name (A). My dialog box says: "Advanced Security Settings for [WindowsApps]" where WindowsApps is the folder I am attempting to gain access to.

The "EDIT" button is only visible after you make a selection in the "Permission entries" list (B).

While my User is now the "owner" of the folder (MACHINE_NAME\user_name), this is not listed in the "Permission entries". I'm confused what to at this point.

--> Is the Owner meant to be listed in the Permissions entries?

Don't mess with the permissions. That's asking for trouble. Just use PowerRun to access the WindowsApps folder.
