How do I keep free disk space

Having run out of space on my SSD drive, I uninstalled programmes and reinstalled them to another drive. This freed up 9GB of space.

Now within a couple of days I have lost all that space and am down to 194MB. How come, where has all that space gone?

To give a better idea of what is using space download and install TreeSize Free | JAM Software (jam-software.com) if you have enough space, install and run it as an administrator then expand the top items to see where the larger files are.

Post back a screenshot of the result.

Thank you. I can understand things using enormous amounts of RAM which is cleared after a restart but I cannot understand why it consumes all the free space on the disc permanently.

    Hi again ZiggyDee,

If you have done all the steps above, then you should consider either uninstalling apps or upgrading your hard drive.

8GB nowadays is nothing, a lot of apps and games consume tremendous space. for example, if you are a gamer and you play Warzone it takes between 115GB to 250GB depending on the maps you download, regarding the apps if you have Photoshop for instance it will consume 8 GB and if you install plug-in it will consume even more than that

so I recommend upgrading your hard drive

    Best Regard

Thanks for your time. All these are done on a daily basis, infact several times a day but it doesn't solve the problem as it only amounts to a few MB whereas I have lost 8GB and more of space in a few days. I also clear System Restore daily so it renders it useless as there are no points there any more.

    Hi ZiggyDee,

    I'm Amr, an independent advisor.

There are several ways to keep free disk space on Windows 10. Here are some tips:

Empty the Recycle Bin: When you delete items like files and photos from your PC, they don’t immediately get deleted. They go to the Recycle Bin. Emptying the Recycle Bin can free up space on your hard drive.

Delete temporary and downloaded files: You can delete temporary files that your computer stores to help it run faster. You can also delete downloaded files that you no longer need.

Save files to a different drive: If you have more than one drive on your computer, save files to the drive with more space.

Store files in the cloud – and only in the cloud: Storing files in the cloud can free up space on your hard drive.

You can also check how much disk space is available on your computer by following these steps:

    also, delete temporary files:

In the search box on the taskbar, type disk cleanup, and select Disk Cleanup from the list of results.

Select the drive you want to clean up, and then select OK.

Under Files to delete, select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.

    Select OK.

If you need to free up more space, you can also delete system files:

In Disk Cleanup, select Clean up system files.

Select the file types to get rid of. To get a description of the file type, select it.

    Select OK.

I hope this is helpful. If you require any additional assistance, don't hesitate to respond to this.
