I use ethernet and my ping is usually 8-15 on games like Valorant and Overwatch, but suddenly my ping has been anywhere from 150-250 out of no where? I have no idea how to fix this and the only way i can get it down is to clean my pc with CCleaner every time I want to play a game. Do I have some kind of virus?

these are my specs (prebuilt pc)

    Hi Scarlett,

    That's great detective work! I

t’s great that you were able to identify the cause of the issue by following 2. "Check for background process" !

OneDrive can use up a significant amount of network bandwidth when it’s syncing files, which could cause high ping. You can try pausing OneDrive sync while you’re playing games to see if that helps. To do this, click on the OneDrive icon in the system tray, click on “More” and then select “Pause syncing”. You can choose how long you want to pause syncing for.

I'm glad that your ping has improved after addressing the issue with OneDrive. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to let me know.

    Happy gaming!

    John J.D.

    Hi Scarlett,

I noticed that you edit your message.

Thanks for doing security scan, and I understand that it didn't detect any malicious files. That's good to know. Since both the network adapter drivers are up to date and the network reset didn't improve the situation, it's possible that there could be other factors causing the high ping. Please proceed to follow number 2 - 3 and update me on your progress.

    Thank you!.

Yes i run the Ookla wifi speed test all the time it’s stuck at about 160-170 on my pc, but on my phone ranged from 7-23 so it’s not the game. I’ll have to run the security scan too i haven’t done that

    Hi Scarlett,

I am John J.D., a fellow Microsoft user like you.

I understand that you're experiencing high ping while playing Valorant and Overwatch, despite using an ethernet connection. It's important to determine if this issue is specific to these games or if it affects other applications as well.

Have you checked your internet speed and recent ping test results?

This will help me understand if the problem lies with your internet connection.

Regarding your concern about a possible virus, have you performed a full scan using Windows Security? If not, it might be worth running a scan to check for any malware or infections.

Please provide more information about the results of your internet speed test and the scan using Windows Security. This will help me assist you further in resolving the high ping issue.

Please keep me posted. I'm here to help you with this, let's work together to resolve the issue.

    Best regards,

    John J.D.

    Hi Scarlett,

Thanks for getting back to me and providing more information.

If the speed test results are significantly different between your PC and phone, it could indicate an issue with your PC’s network adapter or settings. You could try updating your network adapter drivers or resetting your network settings to see if that helps.

To update your network adapter driver on Windows 11, you can follow these steps:

    > Press the Windows key + X keys together and choose Device Manager from the available options.

    > Expand the Network Adapter category.

    > Right-click on your network adapter driver and choose Update Driver Software.

To reset your network settings on Windows 11, you can follow these steps:

    > Open the Windows Start menu and type “Network reset” in the search bar.

    > Click on “Network reset” in the search results.

    > Click on the “Reset now” button and follow the prompts to complete the reset.

Keep in mind that resetting your network settings will remove any saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, so you’ll need to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network after the reset.

Please feel free to reach out if you need further assistance. I'm here to help until we resolve the issue.

    Best regards,

    John J.D.
