For what it's worth enable TLS 1.2.

Update to enable TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 as default secure protocols in WinHTTP in Windows

Your win 7 PC may not support Win10, check that PC makers support to check

You do not "update" to Windows 8 first at all.

Windows 8 never came for free and is out of support since 2016. 4 years earlier than 7.

You may or may not still get 10 for free, but you first have to see if 10 is compatible with your device.

If you are upgrading to 10 at least make a system image backup for two reasons.

1. Some people report they don't get the free upgrade and want to reinstall 7, 8, or 8.1 depending what you attempted to upgrade from..
2. If you don't do the system checks and 10 is incompatible with your device and it becomes inoperable.
