Why won't windows recognize my iPad anymore?

Windows no longer recognizes my iPad in Explorer iTunes but still sees my iPhone. Why?

My iPad was working fine connecting with iTunes a little over a week ago. Last working on 6/16/23. Not sure but following updating both Windows to KB5027293 and iTunes to 12.12.9.4 suddenly Windows and iTunes does not recognize my iPad when plugged in. Not sure if either or both or neither have anything to do with it. The iPad driver is now missing from the device manager. Tried reinstalling iTunes several times. Checked and tried all USB ports and several different cables. All without success. Apple support ran diag on the iPad and found no problems and is thinking it has something to do with Windows but continue to investigate on their end. Strange thing is that everything works fine with my iPhone. Cables, USB ports and iTunes. Tried updating the drivers several times and Windows indicates the best ones are being used.

Looking for some ideas. Thanks in advance.

As a final option prior to awaiting resolution from Microsoft or Apple, I propose attempting to connect your iPad to a different computer. This alternative approach can assist in discerning whether the issue lies exclusively with your Windows computer or if it persists across multiple devices.

Should this endeavor yield no favorable outcome, I reiterate the recommendation to submit feedback to Microsoft as previously suggested. By doing so, you contribute to the reporting and tracking of the issue, facilitating its eventual resolution.

Thanks for the help and advice Yuhao. However, it did not resolve the issue. I even tried uninstalling my security software without success. It appears that I'm missing the iPad driver in the device manager. I've tried installing it several times but it still does not show up and I'm still in the same situation.

Attempts to revert back to prior versions of both Windows and iTunes only resulted in loosing my iTunes library which will take many hours to rebuild.

Hopefully Apple will find a solution but it appears it's a Windows issue not recognizing the iPad when connected. It sees the iPhone just fine which is strange.

    Thanks again for your efforts.

    Hello, Mike Thornton1

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Since you mentioned that the issue occurs "following updating both Windows to KB5027293 and iTunes to 12.12.9.4", have you tried uninstalling the Windows update by hiding it and reinstalling an older version of iTunes? This can help determine whether the issue is caused by Windows Update or iTunes update.

To hide a Windows update, follow the suggestion here, which is also applicable to Windows 10: Removal and blocking of unwanted updates in Windows 11 Ver 22H2 - Microsoft Community. Manually allow to keep the file if the download is blocked.

To reinstall an older version of iTunes, visit this page: Apple - Support - Downloads

Disclaimer: Microsoft provides no assurances and/or warranties, implied or otherwise, and is not responsible for the information you receive from the third-party linked sites or any support related to technology.

It may also be worth considering creating a local user or administrator account in Windows and performing a clean boot to eliminate any potential outages caused by user profiles or background programs. These basic troubleshooting measures have broad applicability and can be attempted to solve a variety of problems.

You may also want to temporarily disable or configure the settings of your security software to see if it resolves the issue, as some security software, especially third-party ones, such as antivirus programs or firewalls, can interfere with the connection between your iPad and Windows. Don't forget to turn them on immediately later.

If none of these steps help, it might be best to submit feedback to Microsoft by pressing Windows + F on your keyboard at the same time to investigate the issue further, so that the issue may get fixed in the future.

Let me know if you have any other concerns.

    Best regards

    Yuhao Li
