Hello, I have created two accounts on my PC. 1 is a Microsoft account, the Admin, and the other Is a Local account. But I am unable to switch between accounts without signing out from one. The 2nd account only shows at the log in window if I have signed out of the first. It is frustrating because I have to loose everything I am working on in an account to be able to switch users. Please how can I log in to both accounts and switch between the users without having to sign out from one account.

Hi A,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I see. That’s unusual. Here are some things you can try:

Make sure that both accounts are set up correctly and have the necessary permissions to switch between them.

Check if Fast User Switching is enabled on your computer. To do this,

> Open the Local Group Policy Editor by pressing the Windows key + R.

> Type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

> Then navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Logon.

> In the right pane, double-click on Hide entry points for Fast User Switching and make sure it is set to Not Configured or Disabled.

If the issue persists, you may want to consider creating a new user account and see if the issue persists with the new account.

Please keep me posted on your progress. Let's work together to resolve the issue.

Best regards,

John J.D.

    Hi John,

I followed your instruction above, and although this -

"In the right pane, double-click on Hide entry points for Fast User Switching and make sure it is set to Not Configured or Disabled."

Was not configured, I set it to enabled, and then not configured again just to sort of reset it. And I am glad to say that I now see the 2nd user when I click on the windows button.

Thank you so much for your help. :-)

    Hi John,

Thanks for your response. To clarify

"In the right pane, double-click on Hide entry points for Fast User Switching and make sure it is set to Not Configured or Disabled."

This should be either disabled or not configured? Or should it be enabled?

I would also like to add that when I created the local account, I could switch between both accounts because they were both signed in. But since I signed out of both and shut down... I have not been able to sign into both at the same time.. I always need to sign out of 1 before I can see the other.

Hi John, thanks for your response. The switch user option does not show when I use either ctrl alt del, or the windows button or even task manager.

And with the windows button, it's only the acc I am logged on to that shows up.

    Hi there, A!

I am John J.D., a fellow Microsoft user like you.

I understand that it can be frustrating to have to sign out of one account in order to switch to another on Windows 11. Here are a couple of ways you can switch between user accounts without signing out:

    Switch Accounts Using Ctrl+Alt+Delete.

    > Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete simultaneously on your keyboard.

    > Select “Switch User” on the screen that appears.

    > You’ll then be on the login screen.

    > Select the user account you want to switch over to.

Switch Accounts From the Start Menu.

    > Click the Windows icon in the taskbar.

    > Click your profile image, and then select the user account you would like to switch to from the context menu.

    > Once selected, enter the password for that account and it will switch over.

By using any of these methods, you can switch between user accounts in Windows 11 without signing out of one account.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I'm here to help you with this. Let's work together to resolve the issue.

    Best regards,

    John J.D.
