Windows 10 Mail and Earthlink.net

Trying to set up email on our new computer running Windows 11. Came with Mail and Calendar program installed. Earthlink gives specific instructions to use pop.earthlink.net with a port of 110 and smtpauth.earthlink.net with a port of 587 as the POP3 addresses. But not seeing a way to ensure the ports are correct like in other email programs. Have changed the default numbers in the sync options to these numbers. Nothing seems to work. Cannot download email and don't dare try to send any at this time. Realize we're old school with language like "Earthlink" and "program." How can we make this new fangled machine do what our old fashioned (and very slow) computer used to do? Anyone know the settings?

The Mail app is a basic email client more focused on IMAP email accounts.

The Mozilla Thunderbird is a good email client that has good support for the POP3 email accounts and receives updates often. You can see at this link how to configure an email account manually in the Mozilla Thunderbird.

Thanks so much for your advice, Robinson. I redid the account set up without any success. Agree that maybe Windows Mail isn't the email program for us...we'll move on.

Hi, Scott9876CG. I'm Robinson, and I’m happy to help you today.

When you are configuring the email you need to select the option "Advanced setup" to be able to configure the incoming and outcoming server separately.

    1-Open the Mail app

2-Click on Settings(gear icon) then click on Manage account > Add account

3-Scroll down and click on "Advanced setup"

    4-Click on "Internet email"

    5-Fill in the following fields:

Email address = your full email address

User name =same as email address

Password = the password for your mailbox

Account name= you may choose any name for your account

Send your messages using this name = select a name to be used for your Outgoing emails

    Incoming email server = pop.earthlink.net:110:0

    Account type = POP3

    Outgoing (SMTP) email server =smtpauth.earthlink.net:587:0

Uncheck the option "Use SSL for the incoming server" and "Use SSL for the outcome server"

    6-When finished, click on save

If the problem persists, you will need to use another mail app that works better with POP3 servers like Mozilla Thunderbird.
