Certain files fully download before dropping to 0 b/s and stay there indefinitely

I've been attempting to download several files for 3D printing. Strangely, some files will fully download (example: reaching 191 MB out of a 191 MB file size) then drop to 0 b/s and stay there, refusing to finish the download. This happens across all three browsers on my computer: Edge, Chrome, and Firefox. It also only applies to certain files on the site. For example, I could fail to download one model of a creator and then successfully another one by the same creator. The files I can and cannot download stay the same regardless of how many times I reboot my computer or which browser I use.

Normally, I would suspect this to be a problem with the file itself or the website but I can download the file I normally couldn't just fine on other devices like my phone meaning it's a problem on my computer's end, not my internet or the website.

    Hi Francis_Kelly77,

The file with the error appears to have failed to fully establish a connection to transfer data.

Although some data is still being transmitted, there may be a problem that the verification process of key data cannot be completed.

Depending on the presets of such behaviors by different vendors, different functional presentation behaviors may be adopted. In Edge, it appears to be stuck at a certain progress; in Chrome, it appears to be unable to predict the download time.

Based on the information so far:

    • New local accounts still cannot download certain files.
    • Your device cannot use Safe Mode with Network.
    • You performed tests on the same ethernet port with other devices, but one of the old laptops has a similar problem.

We remain skeptical about the possibility of a particular driver causing the problem.

We've recently received reports of issues caused by certain updates.

We are not sure if it's relevant to your situation, but we don't think it's a bad thing to take it with a grain of salt.

Do you remember if specific software or a specific recent update was installed on the two notebooks that you're having issues with?

Besides, would you be handy to provide hardware information and system version numbers for the three devices you tested on?

    Especially network related devices.

    • We can type winver in the search box to get detailed system version information.
    • We can type msinfo32 in the search box to get detailed hardware information.
    • We can type device manager in the search box to get detailed driver information.

For a specific version of the network card driver, you may need to visit the driver download link provided by the manufacturer of the device, or contact your original device provider.

    Best Regards,

Apologies for taking so long to reply. To answer your questions:

    • One of the problematic files is this one.
    • I am currently hooked up to a private (home) network.
    • As for the new, local account, I still cannot download the file.
    • I have uninstalled and reinstalled my network driver to no effect. I am unsure of how to install different versions and am having trouble finding a guide as google tends to show me pages on re-installing/updating the driver. Is there an article I can use?

Additionally, I have performed a few, extra tests and noticed a few things:

    • Files which have the error occur do not have an estimated download time in Chrome. Files I can download, do however, have the estimated download time.
    • I have plugged my old laptop (which I transferred my files into my current computer when I got it) into the ethernet cable my desktop uses and it has the same issue. My brother's laptop, plugged into the same ethernet port, can download the files just fine.

I'm not sure if this clarifies anything but I hope it helps.

    Thank you!

    Hi Francis_Kelly77,

Thank you for getting back to us.

We tested several files, ranging from KB level to less than 100MB level.

We have not found similar problems so far.

Could you please provide the links to the problematic files you're experiencing?

We would like to confirm some additional information with you.

    • Is your device in a domain network environment? For example a corporate network?

Is the problem still the same even under a new local account?

It is not a normal situation that Safe Mode with Networking cannot use the Internet.

    • This means there might be some issues with something network-related, such as a driver issue.
    • If this is the case, it means you may want to consider using a different version of the driver for further verification.

Okay, I've tried going through each of these one by one. None of them have worked so far. Of note, I was unable to even attempt the Safe Mode option because the internet was disabled regardless of whether I picked Safe Mode with Networking or not.

My phone uses the same network so it doesn't seem to be an issue there.

    Hi Francis_Kelly77,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

This is a strange phenomenon.  It seems like the final content verification merger stage is disturbed.According to your test results, we cannot temporarily unable to rule out the possibility of problems in the computer configuration. We cannot directly contact your device, which means that the process of analysis will be difficult and long.We hope to invite you to perform further tests in order to better understand the status of the problem.

    • Reset the configuration in the Internet Options. We can type Internet Options in the search box, find and run it. Find a tab or function that provides the "Reset" option, and execute "reset" to restore part of the configuration to the default state. As shown below. Image
    • Reset group policy.  Type CMD in the search box, find Command Prompt and select Run as administrator. Type the following commands one by one in the elevated Command Prompt window to restore Group Policy to default state.
      RD /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicyUsers"<br><br>RD /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicy"gpupdate /force
    • Create a new local account.  The profile of the account is associated with many parameters and registry key values.  The new account has a new profile and registry state. Create a local user or administrator account in Windows - Microsoft Support
    • Observe whether the problem is reproduced in the safe mode.  The safe mode starts the device with limited drivers and services. Observing Windows in safe mode enables you to narrow down the source of a problem. Start your PC in safe mode in Windows - Microsoft Support
    • Does your phone use the same network as your computer? If not, reset upstream network hardware such as routers is a way of thinking. Some rules or strategies preset in network devices may induce some unexpected issues.

Besides, could you please provide the link to the website?

    • This may help us perform the corresponding test for you.

Thanks for your patience and understanding!

If you have any other supplementary information on this issue, please feel free to let us know.
