File explorer and games crashing

I've been having several issues with my PC over the last week. First it started with games crashing repeatedly (the ones which would crash the most were Minecraft and CS:GO, often making me unable to open either game for 10-20 tries before it would suddenly work, Escape From Tarkov would also occasionally crash/cause blue screens when trying to open it as well as midgame but nowhere near as frequently, I don't play any other games). Then I began getting blue screens out of nowhere several times an hour. And now I am also getting my file explorer crashing at least once a day.

There were no applications or other software I had installed recently which could have caused this.

I've fully reset my PC, deleted all files including cleaning the drive which stores windows and all of my games and reinstalled windows from the cloud. I do also have an extra SSD in my computer currently that I brought over from my old PC that I was using from 2017-2022 which I did not wipe as I assumed it would be unnecessary since I hardly ever access files stored on that drive. Thankfully the blue screens have seemed to stop since I reset my PC (2 days now), the file explorer and game crashes seem to have become less common but do still happen an unusual amount (several times a day).

My CPU/GPU temps are completely normal. Often 35-45°C with only non-demanding applications open (Spotify, browser, razer synapse, etc), and roughly 65°C with games open (tested with Escape From Tarkov). I do have XMP II enabled in my bios to allow my RAM to run at the advertised speed, however nothing else is overclocked.

Here's a list of everything I have tried so far in order of when I attempted them (none of the scans showed any issues):

  • Validating game files (sometimes there would be files that needed to be validated even when validating the same game several times, sometimes it would say they're completely fine)
  • Updating all drivers
  • Windows defender scan
  • SFC scan
  • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  • MdSched
  • Reinstalling GPU drivers using DDU then installing the drivers through NVIDIAs website
  • Driver verifier (selected only ntoskrnl.exe as that was appearing to be the issue according to the blue screens I had been getting previously, this caused repeated blue screens until I disabled driver verifier in safe mode)
  • Resetting PC (Settings were: Remove all apps and files. Clean the drive, Delete all files from Windows drive, Download and reinstall Windows (cloud download)).
  • Using Fortect (no idea if this is actually supposed to be a helpful tool, it said there were several issues with my computer and "fixed" the problems, however I'm still experiencing the same issues. Thankfully I only used the free trial which was usable for 24 hours so no money was wasted)
  • Disabling Intel Rapid Storage Technology in the BIOS (this caused my PC to endlessly blue screen, with the error message being INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE, so I have had to re-enable it to use my PC at all).

Here's a list of my current PC specs. I'm aware my current GPU is very underpowered when compared to the rest of the PC and do plan on upgrading in the very near future, just wanted to fix these issues before doing so. Most of the hardware was bought new in December of 2022 (roughly 7-8 months ago as of posting this), the only exclusions are the GPU which was bought new in 2017 and has been used daily since then and the old 250GB SSD which has been used as much as the GPU:

  • CPU: Intel i7-13700k
  • CPU Cooler: Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L V2
  • Motherboard: Asus PRIME Z790-P WIFI ATX LGA1700
  • Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL40
  • SSD (main): Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2TB
  • SSD (old): Samsung 850 Evo 250GB
  • GPU: EVGA GTX 1070
  • Case: Fractal Meshify 2
  • Power Supply: Corsair HX1000 1000W

Here's a list of every blue screen error code I got, excluding the one I got after disabling intel rapid storage technology, although I'm unsure if these will be of any use as I haven't seen any blue screens appear since the PC reset:

  • SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
  • IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (what failed: ntoskrnl.exe)
  • ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY
  • KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
  • PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
  • SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Not really sure what to do from here so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I am using Windows 11 Pro.

Update: I've received some help from Microsoft support through the get help and quick assist app, where apparently there were some mandatory drivers that I had not realised were not updated, which have now been updated. Unfortunately this has not fixed the blue screen issues, and I am still getting constant crashes to desktop on CSGO despite reinstalling/validating countless times (1 file fails to validate every time I try to use steam's validate game files).

When CS:GO crashes the error posted into problem reports is:

I managed to get the memory dump file size lower by changing back to kernel memory dump and just using my PC as normal until it blue screened. I've attached a link to both the memory dump file and the event viewer evtx file, both zipped.

    Thanks for your help.

You may try to zip or RAR this dump.

Please check system journal (Event Viewer) for possible errors at these moments, especially Kernel-Power errors. DistributedCOM errors should be ignored.

Or save system journal to evtx file and share it to OneDrive for analysis.

To check system journal right-click Start, select Event Viewer, expand Windows at the left and select System journal. Then look for error messages (events). DistributedCOM errors should be ignored.

You may right-click on System and select "Save…" to get evtx file. Do not use any filtering, informational events may be meaningful too.

    Hey Igor,

The only way I was able to get the MEMORY.DMP file to appear was to select complete memory dump, instead of the one suggested in that link being kernel memory dump. This has resulted in the file being 31GB, which is unfortunately larger than my entire storage space on OneDrive.

I still don't seem to be getting any blue screens generally since resetting my computer a few days ago, however the game crashes are common. The only time the computer has blue screened since then was when changing the debugging information to complete memory dump instead of kernel memory dump and then restarting. My understanding of memory dumps is that they are only useful for issues regarding blue screens, although do correct me if I'm wrong and let me know if there's any other ways I could get the memory dump file to be created without being so large.
