How do I transfer the operating system from one SSD to another?

Good day, I've just installed an additional M.2 SSD into my laptop. I want to migrate the OS from my first SSD to the new one.

  1. Could you assist me with this issue?
  2. If I migrate from one SSD to another, will I lose the license of my Windows OS (I want to transfer the OS along with all necessary device drivers, but leave the rest of the programs and components on the old SSD)?

In that case, to clone the old disk to the new one, you'll need to use some third-party program like the one below.

If you have questions on how to use it to clone my disk, please access the article below, it is detailed and will help you in this process:

If you want the other option, allow me to share the thread below with you to help you with the clean install process of Windows 11 on the new disk.

    Hello, how are you?

There are certain limitations in doing this procedure you want for OS migration.

First of all, I recommend that you disable BitLocker before carrying out these actions in order to avoid any kind of problem.

Come on, I'll try to explain better, first let me know what kind of Windows license do you have? Is it a retail version? Do you have the activation key or is it a digital license linked to your email?

You could even clone one disk to another, but it would be an identical copy of the old SSD on your new disk, all files, programs, installations, that's an option.

The other option would be to do a fresh install of Windows on the new disk, and after that you can backup your important files from the old one, format it and copy the files back to it so that it is a second storage disk only.

But it's a clean install, you'll have to reinstall and configure everything again.

I bought a laptop already with Windows installed.
Cloning does not scare me in principle, I will essentially transfer all the data from the old disk to the new one, and format the old one to store other information. However, I still haven't figured out how I can do this

Yes, ideally, the new disk should be clean so that the program itself can create the correct partitions.

But honestly, I can't say if cloning some partitions will work correctly, I've used it a lot to clone the complete disk and it works.

I tried the macrium program, but when selecting the necessary disk sectors and trying to transfer them to a new disk, the system informed me that there was allegedly not enough space on the target disk. I read information on this issue that the cluster sizes (block sizes) or something like that may differ, do I need to find out the block sizes on the old SSD and format the new SSD again for the same cluster size (block size)?
