How do I stop onedrive trying to sync everything BEFORE I can selectively sync only one folder?

I have a very large one drive area, with many shared folders accessible to our entire team. Thousands of files!

Every time I have a sync error, or set up a new computer, I cannot find a way to select just the one folder I need until I have sync'd all files first. If I try before they have all sync'd, I get a message saying I have to wait until synchronisation has finished. If I pause syncing, I can't go to settings to select just the folder I want.

This is wasting hours and hours of my time while I wait. How can this be done?

I have the same issue. This is just dumb that we cannot select what files or folders that we want to sync first instead of syncing everything.

It's ridiculous that we have to set-up for every laptop the same process when we can save so much time in selecting folders for different department. I hope Microsoft add this option in the future as this is just dumb that it is not there since day 1. It's like pouring all your lego(s) all over the floor & then only picking the pieces that you need.

I have the same issue and there doesn't appear to be a solution.

I have 3TB on my OneDrive, and a 1TB hard drive. Onedrive crushes my hard drive by filling it, and I can't stop that from happening, and I can't selectively set which folders I want it to sync immediately after installing it.

This is the dumbest program ever.

Unfortunately if I pause syncing I cannot select settings so cannot follow the choosing folders process

Thank you for this. Neither option works though.

Option 1 - I cannot do this UNTIL onedrive has first sync'd everything initially. If I try this before the initial sync has completed, I get an error saying I have to wait.

Option 2. If I select unlink, I can no longer select any files to sync as they are no longer linked.

Same issue again and again and again!!!! You have stolen my and my colleague's time. Some of my colleagues say to me, when they need to use this **** service to work I need to pay their time when he in the same situation And he"s right.

And I have been waiting for the solution for years!!!! So stupid programming mistake, I hopeed for years, that maybe somebody would notice and bugfix this. I am so angry... On Monday will call our IT partner, and finally ask to search for another solution for my company.

Every time, I need to use another computer, and moreover, when this stupid, dumb one-drive client program crashes on some of my computers, mostly can't open settings and only try to open setting, but the stupid ring keep rolling and rolling endlessly. In this case, the "good" advice, is that I should reinstall this ****... And yes, until now nothing has helped. And yes, after reinstalling you NEEEEEED re-sync all your folders!!!! Wait hours and hours and hours. Judy, your pieces of advice don't work for me, and as I read not only for me. I understand that it should be work, but don't. It will be sooooo goood, if this advice works!!!!! When you stop sync, the settings won't open. And maybe, when the "first time must be sync" runs I can open settings, and try to uncheck unwanted folders, this stupid program says: Can not handle my request, please wait until sync stops... ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

The solution is so easy, why can you modify the program, so that when somebody runs the program (first time or maybe anytime) the program asks before starting to sync, what folders need you to sync on your computer????

Or test it properly! So many other similar programs and services on the market, why don't learn from them?

You made the OS, you are the service provider for Onedrive cloud, and you can't write a working sync program????
