SSD Randomly disappears after certain restarts

Hello,

Recently I've bought a new laptop and replaced my old one. I took out the old laptop's M.2 NVME SSD out and inserted it as a secondary NVME on my new laptop.

At first everything seemed alright, but after a couple of restarts it started disappearing from File Explorer and Disk Management. Using PowerShell or Disk-part also did not show the drive.

In the Device Manager there is no sign of the drive under the "Disk drives" category but there are two NVME drivers under "Storage controllers". One cannot be disabled and the other can be, and that's how I figured that its related to my missing drive.

Disabling and Re-enabling that driver makes the SSD show up real-time without having to restart, as if nothing was wrong with it before.

The SSD has two operating systems on it and also had GNU GRUB installed.

I am planning to back up the files in-order to format it hoping it will solve the issue but I feel as it's related more to it's driver.

I would appreciate if someone could help me resolve this issue.

Thank you.

    1. Do you have 2 operating systems at problematic disk ?
    2. Anyway , backup your files from problematic disk and format it via "Disk manager" utility.

If the problem continues try to format it with "Mini tool partition wizard".

Multi MBR partitions or bad format parameters perhaps create the problem.

I have installed all the latest drivers you listed though still the error continues.
Another part is sometimes after a restart it'll state that it isn't accessible through File Explorer

Disk Management also shows the second operating system section surrounded by two green blocks, though before when the drive did work those were not present.

Also this showed up on Event Viewer

    Hi.

Go to this page and install the drivers below one at a time and reboot and check if the problem solved :

    1. Storage drivers
    2. Chipset drivers
    3. BIOS drivers

Please let me know if you solve it and how.

    Thanks.

Another thing that I have experienced is when opening the BIOS, it always shows the second SSD installed with its correct identity. Though booting after the BIOS clearly showed that the SSD is installed will still sometimes have it not appear in Windows.

    Hi, sauserkh2003,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue.

Please provide some more details to help to identify what is causing the problem. Which is the full model of your laptop? Which is the model of the SSD that is disappearing?

Also, attach a screenshot of the system information page.

1-Right-click on Start then click on Run

2-Type: msinfo32 and click on OK
