NVIDIA Display adapter gone from device manager.

I'm sure this problem is extremely common and there are plenty of different solutions online. However, I haven't found a single one that has worked for me.

I'm using an ASUS TUF gaming A15 laptop model FA506QM/FA506IC (the box and laptop has QM, but in recent times most software from Asus and websites only show IC)

Ryzen 7 5800H
RTX 3060 (laptop series)

After downloading the latest NVidia driver, I noticed my screens not coming back on after their usual soft restarts. After around 30 minutes I give up and power off my laptop using the power button. When I turned my laptop back on, I didn't notice anything odd. However, when I went to play Valorant I only got around 50 fps. I then went to task manager and noticed that my 3060 was gone from the performance tab. I then went to device manager and found it grayed out. I right clicked it and there was no option to update nor disable/enable. The only option was to uninstall. I uninstalled and tried restarting my laptop to get windows to automatically redownload the display adapter. However, it didn't appear. I have confirmed that the GPU is indeed still in my system as it appears in my UEFI. I have done many of the common fixes, here are some of them:

  1. Uninstalling with DDU and reinstalling drivers downloaded from the official website
  2. Factory resetting my laptop (this redownloaded stuff like PhysX and it says that NVidia drivers were present in my system. However, the GPU did not appear in device manager nor task manager.)
  3. Using 3rd party apps to download drivers
  4. Adding legacy hardware and trying to find NVidia drivers
  5. Adding Microsoft remote display adapter in legacy hardware and trying to update it with NVidia drivers.
  6. Running windows troubleshooter.
  7. Adding the entire folder of NVidia drivers using the "Add Drivers" option in device manager.
  8. I've done the common "“set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" thing and then opening device manager.
  9. I've completely done all the windows updates, armory crate updates, basically any OS updates I could possibly think of.
  10. I've tried the "/set pciexpress forcedisable" before installing.
  11. I've tried uninstalling all the drivers and then trying to change the .inf files but the hardware id of the basic display adapter that is temporarily replacing all my display adapters have hardware ids that can't be found in the NVidia driver flies. (I've concluded that they are probably the hardware Id's for the AMD one)

The display adapter is simply gone without a trace.

I've tried also uninstalling the built in graphics of my CPU, and that reinstalls without a problem. windows automatically adds the AMD Radeon graphics when uninstalling straight from device manager and from using DDU. It's just the NVidia display adapter that refuses to appear.

if any of you are wondering how I got the drivers files if the install failed when using the app, I copied the temporary file that the NVidia updater creates when you run it.

I've nearly lost hope as this isn't the first time this has happened. However, in the past the DDU thing has always worked. I even saved a bunch of YouTube videos that worked for me in the past. None of them work for me now.

    Image

RTX 3060 is still missing. (show hidden devices has been turned on)

This is what happens when I try to install the NVidia driver.

    Hi Dhanam!

I downloaded the tool and tried to run it. However, there isn't an "Upgrade this PC" option. There are only 2 choices in the windows 11 version:

    USB flash drive
    ISO file

I was wondering if i did something wrong? or maybe the windows 11 version no longer has the "Upgrade this PC" feature

Hi, I am Dhanam, here to help you.

I recommend doing an "in-place upgrade". This will download Windows 11 installer files and use those to update and repair your system.

You can follow the video guide in the below link to know how to get it done:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/videoplayer/emb...

    1. Please visit this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-downlo...
    2. There you will see an option "Download tool now"
    3. A media creation tool with the latest version will be downloaded.
    4. Open it in the file location and run it as administrator.
    5. Accept the terms and licenses.
    6. Select the "Upgrade this PC"
    7. And then the downloading will start.
    8. Press "Install" once done.

The system will restart several times and the updates will happen.
