Seems I hadn't properly understood what was happening. Yes, I have that update installed on the 16th (JST) the 17th, and this morning (the 18th) BUT now it keeps wanting to be installed, even though the history list shows a "Successful" install. So something is not right. Any ideas, anyone?
Security Intelligence Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB915597 (Version 1.393.418.0)
This update has shown up for installation four times over the past three days. Every installation in the history shows "Successful". The last two times were about 30 minutes apart. Does anyone know what might be happening here? I see once a few years ago an update with the same number was installed twice, so this isn't terribly unusual; but now four times for this one and I am having some concerns. Or I need not have any concerns?
Would appreciate the feedback.

2023-07-20T07:27:04+00:00 Score one for the humans, if this is a human against AI thing because my unit is in rebel mode. I used a restore point from yesterday morning and those three updates are uninstalled. And I did do a restart and no oddness then.
And thank you admin/mod for removing that post from this thread. I appreciate the work you do to keep things clean around here.
This is a second attempt to post. I hit a wrong key, I guess, and lost the first try.
I was adding that the event log up there in the txt format is so very strange, but that has me repeating myself, doesn't it? But this unit really did give itself commands, didn't it? Oh yes, I think it was the 1074 code that is the key, not the 7002, as I had initially thought.
Okay, let me see if I can submit this now..

2023-07-19T10:14:51+00:00 I think that the issue was fixed today. This morning, I have received only one definition update (Version 1.393.757.0), and no more repeating updates. Lets hope that this will also continue the next days.

2023-07-19T00:40:33+00:00 Thank you for the feedback, Ruwim.B and I suppose I have a positive note to add here. I just installed the following:
Security Intelligence Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB915597 (Version 1.393.737.0)
And there does not seem to be a repeat of the behavior of the previous update this thread is about. Nevertheless, I'll hold off on any "Yes" to "Did this reply solve the problem?" until I see a few more updates download and install in the proper manner. But your case seems worse than mine. And it seems there are a number of folks with the same problem, so maybe it's best to leave this thread open for a bit.
How about some levity. Some engineer was ordered to shut down the program for the security updates and the computer balked and went into this misbehavior mode? AI displaying emotion. <<< You just try and turn me off! We'll show you!! Me and my friends all over the planet!!! >>>

2023-07-18T10:24:30+00:00 Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7 is misbehaving now. For me, the issue with "Update loop" started on July 14 (Bastille day). Windows 7 is no longer supported, but Microsoft has promised to provide definition updates until 2023, without specifying the exact date in 2023.
Each morning since July 14, the latest definition update is installed, but few minutes later, a new update is available again. Sometimes the same version number, sometimes an older version. The Essentials software is sayng that everything is up to date and no updates are required.
However, the update loop continue. I use to install few updates and hide new updates. After a while, the updates stop. Today, 6 updates were installed.
I will continue to monitoring the update process, just to check what finally stops the fake updates.
