How do you get to the active directory when you can't even log in?
I realise that this is pretty late, I hope you got it sorted, but reading the replies of these so called advisors was pretty painful.
It sounds like you just bought a computer from the shop for personal use, and your seeing the referenced account is locked out message? This is a very simple problem to work out, but due to it being username and password based and we all have so many these days it gets really confusing... I will try and cover most aspects...
First, a quick explaination of these lockouts... they can only get locked out in one of 2 possible ways... the first way is 3+ incorrect password attempts (this number can be changed but the average is 3 attempts)
The second way is an IT admin interveining, looking you up specifically and clicking lock... this both is/causes too much work for us so we will never do it unless we have too, because now you will have to come and see us and we have to go back and reverse what we did, when we could have just not had the interaction in the first place and gotten on with our day.
It IS ALWAYS THE FIRST!!!, its a bad password somewhere, maybe your typing it in wrong? maybe you hit capslock? maybe you have just changed your password and havent updated the wifi in your phone? or your ipad? or your laptop? etc... there is no way for us to know, just that it was 3 bad attempts... maybe your actually in the middle of being hacked?
So as far as scenarios,
If you have just bought a laptop from the shop and opened it up out of the box and see this then take it back and complain. This means that it is second hand from a company and they havent cleared the laptops hard drive properly.
If you turn your computer on and get to the login screen and get this message then the username your logging into is locked, try a different account, if you control the account then you should know how to unlock it. If its your work login, call work and ask them to unlock you as only they can.
If you can login and use the internet etc, but when you try and login to the work website/network/computer/resources and see this, then the same thing, your going to need to call them to unlock you, it is automated and the number 1 thing people in IT deal with, you cant call microsoft/apple/dell etc because they dont own the account that is locked.
EDIT: The main issue with a lot of the advise previously posted, is that they were too involved in what they were advising on that the rest of the world stopped existing...
