I just bought a new laptop and connected it to my microsoft account. Was able to set everything up and I was able to use it last night. When done, I shut down the computer and this morning when I try to log in again so I can use my laptop for work, it shows "the referenced account is currently locked out and may not be logged on to" without even giving me an option to enter my password. Need help asap as I need to use laptop for work.

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for sharing additional info. Since there's no issue with your Microsoft account, the error might be caused by multiple incorrect password entry and it usually gets resolved after waiting for a couple of hours before retrying but if its still the same after a day, I suggest following the steps in the link below to help you troubleshoot.

Go to your Active Directory and search for the user name you would like to access. Right click on the user name and then select reset password. From here you can unlock the account and or set a new passcode for the user account.

    Hi, Zephaniya.

I'm Jen. I'm an independent advisor and would happily help you figure this out.

Were you able to set up another sign in option like a PIN? If yes, try tp check if you have an option to change sign in option. If not, try signing in your Microsoft account using a different device to see if your Microsoft account is locked. If it is, you can send a verification code to any phone number to unlock it. You can get more info in the link below.

Waited for some time and it finally accepted my "incorrect password", I successfully reset it. Never again set up password on unstable OSes
