Hi Dave, thanks for helping. I have tried that. Under the security tab directly there isn't an "owner" item. There is an "advanced" button. In there it shows "owner: unable to display current owner" Beside that is a "change" button. Following that opens "advanced security settings for scans" In there beside "owner" it says "system" and has a "change button beside it but it is greyed out.
Underneath are 3 tabs 1. permissions, 2, auditing and 3 effective access
on permissions it has a table showing permission entries, with Trusted Installer, SYSTEM and Administrators , showing full control for all. I am signed in as the administrator, i am the only one.
Beneath the table are add, remove and view buttons, all greyed out as though I am not the admin.
All rather confusing and frustrating.
Any ideas welcomed, thanks
If those folders are empty in Safe Mode, then they are empty, there would be no difference in Windows in normal mode.
Anything flagged in the list in Defender would be in this folder:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Scans\History\Service
Have your performed a full offline scan with Defender?
Hi Michael,
I am Dave, I will help you with this.
Right click that folder and select Properties, then select the Security tab and click Advanced.
Beside the Owner, click the 'Change' button then add a new user named Everyone and apply that.
Save those settings and restart your PC, can you then access that folder or delete that folder?
Thank you for that information.
Try booting into Safe ode to see if you can delete or access that folder from there.
Also, are you able to access and delete the contents of this folder?
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Quarantine
