I did pause and it didn’t work. I will transfer as you said. Thanks for the prompt reply!
I disabled automatic Windows updates to run Migration Assistant but it still doesn't work
I'm transferring data from my PC with Windows 11 to my new MacBook Air. I am using Migration Assistant. It said to disable automatic Windows updates. There was only Pause, which I did. A screen said I have to disable. Google says Windows 11 doesn't have a way to disable, so I ran the transfer anyway. The Mac said I was transferring and then that it was complete, but nothing is in there. I called Apple. They said I HAVE to disable automatic updates. I googled, found a video and followed it, where I disabled and stopped all auto updates in services. It SAYS it's disabled. (I have not restarted so it's not reverting back to the default. I also set it to "take no action" if I do restart.) And yet when I went to transfer again, the same window said I have to disable. Apple said that means I have not disabled the updates. I continued with transfer anyway, same "results". I don't know what else to do. Apple says that the window that says I have to disable the updates would not come up unless I had not disabled them.

2023-07-30T17:37:02+00:00 I am sorry that that did not help. If the Windows Update service says that it is disabled in Services, then it almost certainly is. At that point, it would appear that the issue is with Migration Assistant. Unfortunately, I am not an expert with that application and can only give general suggestions such as uninstalling and reinstalling.
I have checked online, and am not finding any straightforward fixes for this issue. If you wish to investigate further, here is a possible place to start: https://windowsreport.com/windows-migration-ass...

2023-07-30T17:16:32+00:00 Thanks for your reply. I had already done those steps and it still didn’t work. Now Apple said I can’t use Migration Assistant. We’re working on using iCloud to transfer. It’s strange that the Windows Updater SAYS it’s disabled and yet the Migration Assistant says I can’t use it because I have to disable.

2023-07-30T17:02:38+00:00 Hello!
My name is David N., and I am a Community Independent Advisor and Windows fan. I will be happy to assist you with your issue.
To temporarily completely disable Windows Updates:
- Click Start and type "services". Open Services as admin.
- Double-click on Windows Update.
- Set "Startup type" to "Disabled".
4, Click "Stop".
Windows Update will be disabled. Try again. If you still get the error, reboot.
Windows Update is reported to reenable itself at some point in the future, but for the time being it is disabled even if you reboot. To start it, just follow the same instructions but choose "Enabled" and/or "Start" as required.
I hope this helps! Please let me know if this resolves your issue or if you require additional assistance.
Regards,
David N.

2023-07-30T14:08:04+00:00 You can pause Win updates in settings
If its only data you need to tranfer and O365 is not involved you can simply copy using a usb stick
