How do I remove this "trending searches" window from my taskbar search window?

Just recently, Windows 10 has pushed a new widget on my taskbar search window called "Trending searches". I have spent about half an hour trying to figure out how to remove this to no avail. I just want this thing gone. I don't want a constant insight into the news. I don't want "korea stampede" or "bridge collapse in india" on my screen every time I try to do something in windows. I try to avoid the news on purpose. This is literally the last feature I would ever ask for and it's been challenging to remove. Please tell me how to remove it.

Understand. You can always search the web from the browser address box using the Search engine of your choice:

Another thing you can try is remove web searches from the taskbar search box altogether so it's only used to search for apps and files on your PC:

Let me know if I can help further. I'll stay subscribed to this thread in case you need anything else, until the system locks it in a few months.

    OutboundTick489,

So very well stated! I am a retiree who only uses Windows 10 Home now and I am incredibly frustrated with NuisanceWare! as well. I would never have expected Microsoft to force this "stuff" upon its users. Unfortunately, I don't think there will be sufficient vocal opposition to overcome the financial benefits Microsoft derives from this. I hope otherwise.

Thank you for posting this and thank you for the answer below. That worked for me and was such a relief.

I just wanted to comment that I also find it infuriating how each Windows update seems to become more intrusive in terms of adding distractions that are extremely difficult to find out how to remove, and in some cases are impossible to remove. In this case we're forced to download an external piece of code which fiddles with the registry, which is something that as a casual user I am very nervous of. But I feel Windows has left me no choice but to take these risks.

It seems like every time there is an update I have to waste hours trying to undo all the things it's re added. Another case in point is the Bing search bar, which keeps appearing on my desktop despite the fact I have tried everything to get it to stop.

I find it extremely frustrating that Windows does not respect my preferences and keeps trying to force itself on me. It's almost enough to make me want to switch to Mac. Almost. Perhaps I'll have to be become one of those Linux people.
