Windows 10 22H2 update issues - missing .dll , no sound devices loaded, won't update

Apparently, I just got updated this morning with 22H2 on Windows 10 Home. At first I got error code 0x000012f indicating I had a missing .dll file. It wouldn't let most programs to start but especially Microsoft Office. I worked through that using sfc /scannow. Then, on the next reboot had no sound. I got error code 0x80070005. Two things I found , 1) running services.msc it indicated "Audio Service Isn't Running", and 2) I found "No Audio Devices Are Installed". The "Audio Service" won't turn on. Looking at Device Manager all Sound devices are working properly and I've checked all drivers. I tried a System Restore, but that didn't fix anything. I went to Windows Update and deleted the latest Windows updates hoping it would revert back, but no luck. I tried to reinstall the Updates and they say "Downloading" but no progress is ever made. I know the the recommendation will be to reload Windows via a .iso file. I have the .iso file, but doing so will mean reloading every program I have which will take forever. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Hi,

You can mount the ISO and run setup.exe when Windows is running. It does a repair installation, preserving your apps, files, and settings.

    • Double-click the 22H2 ISO to mount it to a drive letter.
    • Run Setup.exe and complete the repair installation.

    Hi Ken,

Glad the repair installation resolved the issue. A repair installation using an in-place upgrade keeps your files and settings by default.

The "Keep personal files and apps" will be selected by default. It confirms that your files/settings will be preserved.

In some cases (e.g., an older ISO or a different language ISO is used), the Keep files option will be grayed out. In that case, if you proceed further, the Setup wipes your data and does a clean installation.

    Hope that info helps.

Thanks. Always concerned that all of my data and programs would get wiped out. I tried the .iso on a DVD, but it didn't recognize my Key. I then downloaded onto a USB drive and it worked. Never told me it was repairing, so I was concerned throughout. But, it worked! I lost nothing and all of my update issues have been corrected. Thanks again.

    Ken
