I'm trying to log into my brand new laptop and it keeps asking me for my password. I give it. Then asks me for email address. I give it. Then brings up parental control. I click on parent/guardian. It brings me back to password. I give it again. Then asks for email. I give it again. Then brings me back to parent/guardian. Then asks for my password yet again. And the cycle continues to no end in an endless loop.

Just for anyone who is still having the same problem; I was stuck in this parental loop for a long time.

I was able to login again after doing something like this (all of this is from what I can recall after a late night try, so the exact options/screens can vary a little, but you can find those out after navigating around a bit).

    • In the parental screen (or login options screen), there is a link to 'Learn more about parental guidelines/rules'.
    • Click and navigate to that link and it will show your local rules/policy about this. There you will get an option to update account details or to add a parent account.
    • In my case, a wrong birth date was the problem but you can update any of these to get back into your account.
    • Just a side note, if you have made too many attempts at logging in, you may get 'too many attempts' error, even after this step. Try logging in at a later time and it goes through.

    Hope this helps.

My dad's account is stuck with this exact authentication loop asking for parent or guardian consent.

    Auth Experience:

    1. Signing in at office.com
    2. Email & Password login fine
    3. MFA prompt fine
    4. Presented with the parent or guardian consent window. See attached
    5. Selected "I'm a parent or guardian" and continued
    6. Goes back to step 2 login and loops on infinitely

I've tried resetting password, clearing browser cache, incognito mode & login on other browsers to no avail.

I'm not sure if this is a backend issue or if parental controls were accidently configured. But if i can't login to the account, i'm stuck and unable to proceed beyond the endless auth loop.

Please help MS Support, this is very frustrating being a paid customer and unable to speak to someone over the phone.

    I have the same problem.

Did everything he did.....and I am stuck in the SAME LOOP.

    Since I can't get in......OBVIOUSLY, I can't "go to" something.

    Now what ?

Hi Brian. I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

Keep in mind that a new PC is under full support, repair and replacement Warranty for one year, so you can contact the manufacturer's Support to get their help, get it fixed or replaced in time to make sure the replacement is good before the warranty expired. If it's just days old then it may still be under Store replacement policy; I would call the store manager who may be able to help.

It sounds like someone set up a Family Safety account for the parents only, and haven't created the Standard child account yet. If your parents did this then they need to use their password to get in and finish setting up Family Safety as shown here:
    https://www.lifewire.com/microsoft-family-safet...

If your parents didn't already create this and have the password needed to sign in, then I'd reset the laptop to factory condition and properly set up yourself as an Admin account which is what the owner of the PC should have.

Here is how to do a Factory Reset: https://www.howtogeek.com/762169/how-to-factory...

If this isn't exactly what you need, please explain a bit more so I can help you better. Otherwise feel free to ask back questions and keep me posted on your progress as I will be here to help until this is resolved.
